Rather than becoming a tarstrip, when i moved on to streetbikes from dirtbikes i decided it would be a good ideato take the MSF course. I feel it was a very great choice and that i got alot out of the class, learning better technique from theexcellent and talented instructors. The only downside is the eternity waiting for your course completion certificates to come in the mailso thatyou can make that jolly ride to the DMV to getyour full Liscense. Its summer, the days are longand roads are calling every day after work. Realistically can anyone HONESTLY say they could just stare at their bike in the garage for three weeks straight? People in my course told me NYS will always impound your bike if they stop you with your permit (regardless of the violation) I had always thought "unsupervised operation" was just a no point infraction. That being said.. Does anyone actually know what the penalty is in the event you are stopped on ur bike with only your permit? (In NY)

 

Sucks that you have to wait. In Ohio, you bring your temp permit and the instructor fills out the appropriate area on the temp permit and you take that to the DMV and get your license.

 

I didn't have to wait for my certificate to come in the mail. They gave them to us after we passed the tests...

 

Yeah, that sucks NS...we got ours after we passed the course. I saw one of the guys from my class when I went in to get my liscense that Monday.

 

i had to wait for mine in the mail took about a week and 1/2 .. but i had my permit too so i was still riding everyday .

 

got mine in class and my license the next day

 

+1 same here. took my card to DPS, took written test, took papers to Tag Agency and got new license

 

Thanks for your condolences guys.. The mail out certificate must be a NY thing.. I couldnt take it anyway and already went out. To me the risk of being stopped in the next two weeks for a stupid fine doesnt exceed my need to ride.
