UPDATE: Tivo anyone? i thinking about it. and hacking it.
hacking is basily adding more space. a bigger hard drive so u can record more. and yea the internet part hum so it can get updates of the tv listings. because how they are now they use a phone line. and it has software so u can take videos out of it. and more
I have a dual TV tuner one my computer. I just hook it into my cable and record right to my computer's HD. Then I can burn movies (or anything else) and watch them on a regular DVD player.
Tivo's are great machines, but I refuse to pay the $12-$20 bucks a month for Tivo (especially the outrageous $600+ bucks for the HD version). I'm much happier with Comcast's DVR, which only cost an extra $5/month.........and in my opinion, is much easier to use. (though, I do wish the Comcast box had a larger drive..........Hell's Kitchen in HD is taking up a lot of space.

I'm calling mine a Tivo, but it is a DVR through Dish Network. I got it for free as part of the sign up special. Free makesalmost everythingbetter.

sirius and xm are both the same, music channels are commercial free and talk channels or sports channels have commercials. Thats how they get away with there "100% commercial free music channels" ads.

What software are you running and what tuner card do you have? I have an ATI TV Wonder card, its a 125 channel tuner, which doesnt get speed, 206, BOO!, but the software that came with it does not work. It is called TvTv, which is a European channel listings only. I can watch live tv and record live, through different software as well, but I cant schedule recordings according to the broadcast. I tried to use Guide+ software, which had the listings, but I could not schedule anything again.

Instead of a DVR, when you do that on a PC it is called a PVR (Personal Video Recorder).
