Well, so have every single other car when they roll up from the factory line. I cannot understad why priuses get whipped for the exact same thing EVERY car goes through when they are built. Show me even one car that has been completely built from parts found around the factory.

The Gas engine generator is most propably due to the unfair taxation of diesel powered cars. My Volvo does 6,3litres/100km so it WOULD be economical if it wouldn`t be taxed it`s **** off: 635euros /year!!!! It`s fairly easy to calculate which is the more economical car to drive: my Volvo, or my Gas-driven Citroen that does the same numbers, but with the tax of about 30e/year... No one would buy a diesel- prius because of the taxes. That`s why.

E: and yeah, Prius takes more gas than that BMW, because it is driven at the edge of it`s performance! Any babboon can understand that. IT IS NOT MEANT TO BE DRIVEN ON THE TRACK! Do the test again, but this time do 1000 miles on highway and show me the results. If the beemer STILL leads THEN i`d buy one instead...

the problem is not with the car, it's the drivers that are the problem. i've only known 1 prius owner that knew how to drive, maybe two if mattson gets one. i cringe every time i see one on the road, not because of the car, but because of the idiot driving it. they are clueless to the world around them.... if they spent the kind of time they spend on the "green" illusion on driving, we all would be better off.

sometimes i wonder if they of the thinking that a dead motorcycle rider is one less person to pollute their planet.....

you missed the point.... completely. it's how you drive, not WHAT you drive. its like when i drive my wifes sonata... i get way less gas mileage in her car than she does. if i were to drive a prius vs riding my bike - i'd get better gas mileage on the bike.

however, if you look at the sheets - the prius gets better gas mileage than my bike does.

and considering the car's battery's ore is mined in canada, refined in eastern europe, then the batteries are manufactured in india, other car parts are then assembled in asia, and then car sold back in america

sorry, NO other car is like that.

amm, how did I miss it? From where I stand, i just said that. The prius is giving all it has on the track so dang yeah it`s consuming more gas than that bmw that is driven with the gas pedal barely pressed... Highway, where the car is ment to be, it performs the way it`s supposed to and consumes way less than that bmw.

That battery thing I have no argumet to other than many car parts are being juggled around the world like that, it`s just a bat to hit anyone that says different.

I`m not planning to buy one because of the karma points, I`m doing so because it saves me heaps of money compared to the Volvo, and I need an STW or equalivent to carry around our dog an the child that`s bound to happen during the time I pay for the next car I buy...

I have not noticed that kind of behaviour from Prius drivers around here, in fact, they are pretty widely used as taxis here. The a$$holes around here are the ****** driving those expensive mercs, beemers and such that think the traffic laws don`t affect them...

The electrical components used in the Prius require more chemical processing, which is environmentally harmful, and they're harder to recycle.

When it comes to the Prius, the simple fact is that there are alternatives that get comparable (or better) gas mileage with less of an environmental impact during production and retirement.

As far as Clarkson's statement "it's not what you drive, it's how you drive", that's not entirely true. I could drive my Chevy Blazer as gently as humanly possible, and still not come close to 30 mpg. It's definitely a combination of the two. I've occasionally been passed on the freeway by Priuses while on my motorcycle, and laugh to myself knowing that at that moment, I was getting a lot better gas mileage than them.

I think hybrid drivers are too busy watching the little "efficiency animation" and trying to get the whole leaf to turn green. Nothing personal against them (yet). I still worry more about deer in my part of the world. Hit 2 of them just last year. One was on a bike, and I'm still not fully recovered. In general, cage drivers are dangerous to riders. I breath a sigh of relief when I see a thumb out the window aimed at me. At least I know that guy sees me.
