Taurus 800 Compact Series?
Was just wandering around and hit the Taurus website. Apparently in 2011 they introduced the 800 series along with a 3.5" Compact in 9mm, .357 and .40. Problem is I can't find chit on any of these weapons except their website.
Anyone heard anything, especially the .357 & .40? Know dealers that carry them in PA? I'm interested enough I'll ride for a bit to fire. And if I like it, I'll buy it (or put it on my wishlist for Xmas)

Check if the local shop/range has one for loan. My range will sometimes order something interesting for you to try if they think it'll have some sales potential, even if you don't buy it. Worth an inquiry.
Keep in mind, the following is just my personal opinion. The rest of you readers don't have to agree.
That said, don't have a high opinion of .357 magnum rimmed in a auto-pistol. Thay stack funny and just aren't reliable enough in a personal carry weapon. Great ballistics though, tried and true. Highly recommend it in a Ruger SP101.
Now the .40 is my personal, favorite caliber for a main carry, but gonna cause a flinch in anything that small without a TON of practise and some bruising along the way. This gun is more designed to be a back-up or in various settings where concealment is more difficult (suit and tie, smaller folks, some warm weather outfits, etc.).
Anything that compact, I think I would default to 9mm. Excellent balistics, Very well developed defense load design. Reliable and readilly available in both exotic and cheap loadings. If you roll your own, very large data-base on ballistic performance and lots of powders/bullets available, as well.

Well the other reason I'm interested is they have a .22 conversion kit for practicing. I'll stop by the range here and see if they have one.
Anyone tried online ordering a gun before?
Ern:
Concealment + effectiveness is the primary concern. Home defense not really worried about. But medium - large frame guns are a pain to conceal on my body size. And if I'm just going to the corner store (which can prove dangerous) I'm not throwing on a jacket to conceal a weapon.

I can conceal my full sized .40 PX4 with just a T shirt ... 14+1 Hydras ... hey, there might be 15 of 'em
My Glock 27 was a tad bit more comfy but the trigger pull on the Beretta is just so sweet and absolutely zero muzzle rise or torque.
In the end it's all about having what you need when you need it.

True dat ... but in the heat of a scuffle/confrontation the adrenaline can do strange things to your accuracy ... well, mine anyways
This is my carry piece. With the pinky extender and trij night sights. LOVE this gun. I'm not even a Glock fan in general really but I can't say enough good things about this weapon.
Here's a quote by Jeff Cooper...
"The purpose of the pistol is to stop a fight that somebody else started, almost always at very close range."
