Default Sweet new gearbox design in Honda's GP Bikes

Honda's put this new gearbox in their 2011 GP bikes that holds 2 sequential gear with only one engaged, allowing near instantaneous shifts. They estimate a 30 milisecond gain PER SHIFT (!!) which is probably part of why HRCs GP bikes have been so fast in qualifications. Check it out.

Don't worry, it will take some time for any new development to make it to the streets, if it ever does. So our bikes will still have the Honda Clunk.

Besides, I don't think the MotoGP bikes were ever clunkidy clunkidy like our street bikes They have slightly higher tolerances for those bikes..

Combine that tranny with the simply amazing V5 that they have, barring injury I see Stoner winning another world championship. Man I can't wait for MotoGP season to kick off this weekend.

Is this a dual sequential type of gearbox (DSG), like a number of Automakers (including Honda, I thought?) have on the market or in concept cars?

No, it's a fairly conventional transmission except that it engages 2 gears instead of one like a normal one. Only 1 is selected so switching between gears is much quicker and synchronizes much better as well. I'm not the best at describing it, but the linked article does a much better job. It might be behind a paywall, but here's an article from one company which has developed this technology.

That's pretty cool-sounding.
