96-01 cobra's are comparable to camaro z28 and SS's as far as power and performance. The GT's were a joke IMO. The 03-04's are animals and not to be taken lightly, the 05+ GT's are respectible, the '10+ GT's are great, and the new boss is fantastic. Notice how everything is right in the mustang world when they stick with 5.0's?
As for this story, NO I would not feel the need to show up a stock 235hp 4.6L 2v mustang unless he had his girlfriend in the car.

i never mess with cars like that its pointless your gunna win plain and simple, unless i know it is modded and i wanna see what it really has, my buddy had a mustang 02 gt with a kenne bell blower full exhaust vt stage 2 cams 11 lb pully 480hp 510 torque at wheels, he pulled on my 600, not my 1000 when i got it tho lol, but there is a 03-04 twin turbo cobra near me (other mods, power and owner unknown) completely stock looking except the 325 tires on the rear i played with him once on my way to work and he pulled my 1000.. thing was sick!!!

I would have done the same as the OP, because if you let a tool mustang driver (I know, they are the same thing) stay in front then you know they'll brag about it later and exaggerate the story to their friends.....

"BRO I was driving today doing 120 in those tight turns and some *** on a bike tried racing me....Of course my stang won, I told you the convertible makes it fast as ****! Proper sticker placement is crucial"

I didn't bring anything about about a 5.0 motor. I have a Mustang in my garage with a "Real" 5.0 motor. 99-03 can be respectable with power depending on mod's. Cobra mustangs around around my area and pushing mid 400's, stock they came with 390hp and ran 12.9 and was on the cover against a STI on car and driver a couple of years back showing how close they were. I know my cars and mustangs.

Haha that sounds about right!

No fortunately not. I had the car mid college and I guess digital cameras weren't all the rage quite yet (or not effectively build into phones). It was Black with a Cobra R hood and tinted headlights. I regret selling her every damn day.

Afterwards I got a 95 5.0 which I just couldn't get into. Wasn't into the body style. 95 had full exhaust, cobra upper lower intake, and a 150 shot of giggle juice.

then a 98 T/A with lots of bolt on goodies.

Here are a few pics of those two.....

Wasn't directed at you merely pointing out the op got the years wrong. Love those fox body stangs. The Lx hatch is my favorite outta the bunch. Can't go wrong with classics either. A kid back in high school got a fast back from his dad and they fixed it up its very clean.
