Default RE: State of the Forum Address

I tried to explain to someone recently through PM's that I saw them taking jabs at someone and to please stop, but only locked the thread when those people started to team up on him. If you like to snipe, argue, and make rude comments to others, we actually have your back too, if someone is messing with you.

I have an issue with threads where I see 1-2 pages of: You are a tool-Well you are a douchebag-Well you are an idiot...I don't lock a thread if I see one smart comment. Also, if you are playing along at home, I always give a warning in the thread about playing nice, infact, WE ALL DO. If the crap continues, it gets locked. Period. We are well within the rules, and this is not about civil liberties. It is a privelege to post here, not your constitutional right. Alowing threads to work themselves out...how sweet! Not after 1-2 pages, sorry. If we are all adults, then this crap doesn't have to start in the first place, right? If you have an issue with another member USE THE PM SYSTEM. If that fails, include one of us mods or admins.

Honest question, does anybody feel that they can't come to us? Do we seem at all unapproachable? Maybe you have your favorites. Feel free to let them help...that is why we are here. We want to keep this place happy, running smooth (not to include errors [:@]), and make folks feel welcome. I swear. I love this place, but if you are an ***, I will love it more if you are not posting. This is simple stuff!

You know how siblings in the back seat of a car will nag eachother, then one screams, "So and so is touching me!!!". You tell them to stop, then one of them puts their finger as close to the other making sure not to touch them...just to be annoying...and in "compliance" with the request? We don't want a forum full of that. I'll bet we can all agree on that.

My only grievance with mods is the way some of them put themselves on pedestals and pretend like their duty as a mod makes them anything more than a glorified school crossing guard.
... There are some mods that only pop up their heads during these times, however, and that bothers me.
As Voodoo stated, if you have a problem with a particular mod why don't you just send an admin a pm about it or pm the mod themselves to see if maybe there is some misunderstanding? Why start a thread that is going to attract the very same attention that you mentioned you are opposed to other members getting so much of?

My point here is that mods are nothing special. You've been tasked with "moderating" this forum, but in no way does that make you any wiser, more mature, or more responsible than anybody else around here...yet, somehow, every now and then I see a mod using their modness without discretion to advance their own prerogative rather than the forums. All you have to do is uncheck a few checkmarks, and suddenly you guys go from the Wizards to CBRF to little men behind curtains, with your levers and buttons to aid you in your omnipotence.
Very good point. Mods still have the power to call the shots on here, even ifsomeone thinks they are dumb. Mods are backed very strongly by the Admins, and I have never seen or heard of a reversal on a decision, even if that mod is immature. The simple fact is...please follow the rules because itis easy to do.Nobody is infallible, and I think we do a great job here. ANYONEdoing the same job as us would have the opportunity tomake a rash judgement from time to time. Regardless of how we are trampling on other people's rights, acts of civil disobediance are very likely the best way to have an example made of you.

As a member that tries to stay out of the bickering and name calling, I would like to say that I think the mods do a very good job keeping things civil. I think they understand that everyone is going to have an opinion and since it is an opinion, people will challenge it. It is when the "challenge" becomes an "attack" that they use their "powers that be" to step in and do what is in the best interest of the forum.
