My name is luka
I live on the second floor
I live upstairs from you
Yes I think youve seen me before
If you hear something late at night
Some kind of trouble. some kind of fight
Just dont ask me what it was
They only hit until you cry
And after that you dont ask why
You just dont argue anymore

Hiyu Jules
I just noticed this thread ..
I know this thread is an oldie and has been quiet of late, but its a goodie
I thought I would add a little to it
I like you, absolutely loved the 80's and **** I loved the seventies as well (yer om antique )
Life was possibly a little easier , free-er , not quite as fast perhaps and definately not quite as serious as it can be today for sure..
I have tons of memories of the 80's hot summer days and warm summer nights when I felt totally free
for lots of reasons..
I recon we all thought the skys were bluer, the days longer back then, but a little voice in my head tells me that maybee this particular memory is a tad bias
Even taking a ride across the city back then on my VFI000 honda seemed a tad more carefree and casual ..
(the cops even seemed a little easier to get on with :-)
I think the thing to remember is that, to some extent, it was not so much that those years were much different, but it is that the periods of time (our younger years) that all of us go through in life, happen to us all at the similar age's.
I do find it a little hard to grasp the fact that 20 year olds today will possibly look back at 2008 in 15 years and remember them as the good old days ??? .. but, I spose they will ???
I also think that some of the differences between then and today can be measured in some weird but definate ways ... a very relative example that comes straight to mind is with our bikes today..
Near everything that comes off the production lines today is wickedly fast and handles well
In the earlly 80's we took our lives in our hands just trying to stay on the dam road because bikes were in general, if stock, bad hadling and over powered for the frame designs that exsisted then..
So the rides back then can be looked back on by me at least as very very different than today..
Music is one of the best memory triggers that we have..
Its amazing how the mind can instantly wander in delight when it hears a tune from a time when it (we) were feeling different than we do today ... a great feeling indeed
When the day comes that I cannot sit back with a cool drink and remember " the old days " with a smile, I think I will dig my own hole and jump in all by myself ...
I know some have said that the more mellow and perhaps sader songs are no so good, but I think they are not depressing at all and do stir the deeper feelings in us and give us a warmer fuzzy feeling inside, better that the rock and roll type of songs from back them ..
Dont get me wrong I love allll Rock ... " I am a seventies child "
I was going to put a ton of my favorites up , but I think just a few would be more appropriate
A few gentle tracks that moved me and I remember well Jules ...

Simply Red - The Air that I Breath
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ll7VH...eature=related

Jules - The 80's , was a great time
and yu could burn gas by the gallonssss without going broke
At the end of everything , all that everyone has left is memories .
Cherrish them, they are what keeps us happy inside, warm at night when alone and are a beautiful place to go when feeling a little lost or down ..

Probably the funnest thing to see, though, is a big burly trucker cruising down the highway, singing this (link)at the of his lungs
I like to believe that I had a broad taste of music, but it was pretty limited back then. I never listened to Country or Opera. Heavy Metal was a limited. Rap really was basically non-existent...But the 80's music is certainly big part of it all, especially considering the launching of MTV. I picked up some of my brother's tastes of the late 70's my parent's 50's & 60's, my Dad's friend's classical interests and later on I got used to some rap. The thing is I can rarely name a song or artist and almost never know the lyrics (crappy memory), but I could definitely pick up a beat. I always listened to music while doing my homework. It was the only thing that could get me to concentrate enough and I need it to this day to be productive at work.
That of course has changed slightly... Country is cool now, I haven't yet gotten into Opera but can. I'm still having trouble getting my head around metal music (I only recognized "Death metal" and didn't realize there was more until now).

Ok, I was born in 1981 so I should not post in here, but I think the 80s should best be remembered for the power ballads......
