Some People...
Just don't need to be on a motorcycle....a friend of mine recently bought a gs 500....older than me....i think its a mid to late 80's, thats not the point...he has never ridden a bike...and has already downed it TWICE in his yard...today he tells me "i might be getting all the gear i need for free" and tells me that there are two shoei helmets in his garage that are "only a few years old"...i'm like WTF YOU DO NOT HALFASS WHEN IT COMES TO YOUR HELMET!!! He just got 5 grand from money that his gma left him...and is halfassing on at least getting a brand new 200-400 helmet...to wear a shoei which i'm sure is past 5 years old...that was stored in his F'Ing garage! AH IDIOT! I'm not going to his funeral

Atleast he is WEARING a helmet. Some people I know have $500 helmets sitting in their room when they go riding.
But yes, I agree complete. Some people should not be riding. Don't give him too much **** for downing it though, it happens to all of us and some just need a little more time to learn how to ride.

It's better he downs it at home than while "practicing" on the highway. Sounds to me like he is doing things the right way despite his reluctance to buy proper gear, so at least give him props for that much.
ok, So the Old helmet thing might be a bad move. At least he is wearing one.
You can always take him to the powersports dealer, and nudge him in the right direction.
But al least he is starting out on a used bike, and not a hypersports for that matter.
Let him learn... we all dump it a couple of times while we learn.

I realize i may have been a bit hard on him, because i did kind of rip him a new *** about using a used helmet thats been sitting in a garage(not temp controlled either)....but if he is going to slack...do it with like gloves or something...last thing i want it finding out he became a damn vegetable because of an "expired" helmet. I mean cmon...a $250 HJC HAS to be better than a deteriorated shoei....just makes me angry...
And i wasn't giving him **** for downing it...i was giving him **** for improper gear...oh and he downed it WITHOUT gear....when i downed my bike for the first time while being on it...it was like last month...i had been riding for a while and downed it on some "how the **** did that happen" type bs, hell i laughed while laying there with my bike as it started to starve for fuel...and he explained that "i just rev'd it all the way up and it slid out from under me...i think it'll stand up on pavement"..., i do not know of a single stock 500 of that age that can power up for one....and.he needs either a 250...or no bike at all...kept telling him "take it easy respect the machine"...and he is practicing on unsolid ground?! Sry just makes me really upset....especially since i know the kid

That is so weird. The first motorcycle I ever went on was a 1989 Suzuki GS500. In 1990. May. And I rode on the back. I sure didn't feel gay. All I remember thinking was, holy bejeezumsticks, I have got to get me one of these!
So I did. A Ninja 250. New. Nine months later.
