What gets me is that (and I may just be old) you can not convince me that some of these kids (yes, usually I find they are under about 26 years old with a median age of somewhere close to 19-20 without official stat data) are this stupid. These idiots KNOW they don't need a 600 or a liter bike to start on. I think they do post questions like this intentionally b/c it's fun to them to get people worked up. They think it's funny when people react and then go on to explain in detail to them why they don't need a 600 or liter bike. I'm not wasting my time explaining it to them. They already know it. Furthermore, I think that some of them are just stupid enough to think they really might be able to handle a liter bike. They are still stuck in the "I'm invincible and I'll live forever" stage. I remember being like that...don't you? Glad I'm older and wiser now.
In any case, I still think we could do without the offspring of some of these guys. I say let them get the liter bike, they'll end up dead, and we'll be spared having to deal with their genetically inferior offspring 20 years from now.
YMMV.
I'm not giving up on the noobies just yet. Some of them do listen to the advice of experienced members and get smaller, older, less powerful bikes. Some listen and purchase gear with the bike. Some listen and take the MSF course. I'm not giving up on them having a few shreds of common sense.
Facts are.. more new riders buying 1k's crash/die within 6months. Plus side more parts for us.
New 600s are not beginner bikes. c'mon people, we all start out on big wheels n tricycles n moved up. None of us started out on ful size bike, or on mini bikes etc. SO why should a grown person who is suppose to have common sense start out on bikes intended for advanced riders, which the majority of us aint now after years of riding.
But darwin rocks, we get parts, less stoopidness is spread. win win!

I'm guessing this kid was probably some 15 year old going on rant to **** some people off. Anyone who thinks they can handle a Liter for their first bike is not right in the head.
I never understand this argument. If somebody asks about getting a new bike, everyone tells them to get a 600 and that a 1000 will kill you and that no noob can handle that kind of speed and power and on and on. But if somebody starts a thread about a 1000 being faster than a 600, then the same people tell them that a 600 can hang with a 1000 because it's faster in the corners and that there is no real difference except for wide open throttle and the difference in power makes up for the difference in weight.
I don't really care one way or the other, just get your story straight. If you think the bikes are some sort of "beginners" model, then stop telling us that they are fast andcan hang witha 1000. If you think they are fast and can be reasonably ridden with a 1000 for street purposes, then quit acting like someone is somehow not going to kill themselves on it.
I'd like to know how these myths actually start. If a beginner freaks out and twists the throttle during a panic situation, is he gonna be alright if he's riding a 600? Is he going to kill himself on a 1000? Is there some majic dust that gets sprinkled on a 600 that allows a noob to screw everything up the same way as a 1000 but not suffer the consequences? I think that idiots will manage to hurt themselves no matter what and safe people will be safe no matter what kind of bike they have. Can someone explain to me how all these people you talk about would not have died if they had a 600? Is it ok to override your limits and run into things on a smaller bike?
