So what are we at... like 6?
Guys - you aren't alone in this...we've lost nearly a dozen riders in the Durban area (South Africa) this year, and we don't have snow, ice etc to contend with.....
This is an exerpt from our Presidents and Road Captains meeting notice........
"I'm sure Craig will be re-iterating on Road Accidents and what WE are going to try to do to prevent all these stoopid deaths and accidents we're having lately. Come with your ideas and constructive crit and alternative plans to make our roads safe, get ourclub members ATGAT (all the gear all the time) and to make them aware that we're not infallible and need on going rider training. Also maybe we should try and contact some Taxi owners and see if we can't come to some form of agreement or contact AA (Automobile Association) (No NOT Alchy's Anon!) and or some Association like that to work with us?? Please pass this message reminder onto other Club Presidents in and around Durban. See you on Thursday and in the mean time Stay Upright and Lean Into the Bends! Later Les
Let's not lose any more riders, guys, Forum members or not.........
We lost our club Chairman, a month ago, slid bike in a hailstorm and is no more....RIP Dave Strauss.

This is a good post and I don't think Kid is being an *** at all. I hate to read about wrecks, butI guessI need to. I have only had the bike out a few times this year due to the long cold winter here in Ohio, but I do know that I have been pushing it a few times. I had it out Sunday for a few and was doing a few power wheelies and really should have been taking it easy and getting a true feel for the bike and roads again. When I read about all the wrecks it almost makes me want to sell the bike and just play with my truck again, but I love to ride and know I can get killed in my truck as well.
We all just need to clam down and remember that our bikes are not really a toy. Ride safe and lets keep the shiney side up.

Not to fuel anything, but I don't think Kid sounds ignorant at all. I think he was padding the fact that almost all of the wrecking stories were just a single vehicle accident. The fact of the matter is, people decide to push the envelope on the street, without bothering to even make maybe one low speed pass (generally). As a result, their life could have simply ended, but by God's good graces they get to post about it and tell other people to turn their brains on before going riding and to be cautious, lest they end up dead.
take it personally if you must, but try and look at the big picture here, you're dealing with life and death.

The ignorant sounding part was... He said he read the stories but then goes on to say "I'm not sure if any one of them said...." If you've read a story, I'd hope you know what you're talking about then....... Don't get me wrong tho. His message is Well Needed and is good that someone noticed this.
If you want to make a generalized statement to a wide audience then do so... Let me try:
Hey everyone, .... with Spring just starting, we've already had 6 or so members go down already for 2008. Make sure before you guys head out down the roads,to do a reality check before someone logs out for good. From the recent wrecks I've read, many of them were one bikeaccidents thatSHOULD have been prevented. They were lucky to walk away with only minor injuries but thats rarely the case! We've had posts of not so fortunate members and Don't want to read anymore. PleaseDO an ego check, ride safely WITHIN your limits, and GEAR UP. All it takes is pushingONE time outside your limit to be done.

Anywho... sorry for the pissing battle... but all is well! ... Ride safe guys!

Tom Skerrit aka "Viper" in Top Gun. the scene where they are in thier first class.
God i have seen that movie way too much
We have a post on the Hurricane section called "being aware" - it's a collection of tips and guidelines from older riders which could help.........I've learnt from it, and I've been riding for 43 years now. Come on over and see if you think it's worth considering........
but, above all.......
but, above all.......
You know... I find myself so frustrated lately. So many new members already, people getting to know each other all over again.
I have done my best to choose my words carefully in every thread I get involved in. Even more so lately as I've apparently been labled, Forum Jackass. My involvement in a thread these days seems to kill it instantly.
That's fine. But if you guys want to act like I've never helped any of you or offered my help, so be it. I've given so much time to this forum that after 2300 posts you'd start to think people got an idea of who you are.
I've offered constructive feedback, stimulating conversation, helpful suggestions for troublshooting and even some how-to's. But apparently all that is overshadowed because I felt someone here on the forum was putting up a front - and I called them on it.
You know what guys? I DID make a, "nicely worded post" about this very topic on the 6th of March...
Here's the link:

Notice how sincere I was. Making note that while a wave of warmer weather finds its ways to our streets, we need to ride in rememberance of those we've lost.
But seriously, that's not my biggest problem. Some of you guys may skip over a thread when you see my name as it's author - so maybe you never saw that one. That was written on March 3rd, though - and since then we've had 3 more accidents.
Also, for anyone saying anything about my wording in the initial post...
I clearly said, "they were riding over their ADMITTED limits." Folks, that means they knew they were in over their head, aka - NO ONE PULLED OUT IN FRONT OF THEM - IT WAS COMPLETELY AVOIDABLE.
I can't help you guys read, all I can do is put exactly what I mean into words. I don't edit my posts because I don't like it when people change their words. I'm not changing my words and those of you who can see my sincerity, I truly appreciate it.
I feel like the most misunderstood person in the world right now, an that really bothers me because Ihave made this place my second home. I have joked and laughed with most all of you guys and even traded some rib shots. I've looked at your pictures and even offered some of my own, writing to you guys about stories I've had and reading yours - I've enjoyed mostly every minute of it.
I can't believe I'm going to say this to you guys, but my feelings are actually hurt. Also, I don't want any apologies because an apology means you're not going to do it again (to me). You guys said what you did for a reason and it's those reasons that I'm going to simply remove myself from the forums.
I know there was probably a big sigh of relief from whoever has made it this far into my sob story. There is nothing I can offer you guys anymore that you can't get somewhere else. Therefore any more time I spend here is more than likely just going to be used defending myself when I know there isn't a reason to, so why do it, you know? Sure, I could stick around and just watch everything I say, but that's hardly what I do in my home and to be honest, I've felt like this was home for some period of time now.
I'm going to just take the entire summer off from here. Plenty of trips to be made and lots to do (Indy MotoGP this year!), so if I make it back this fall, I sincerely hope that everyone who I've been involved with on this forum is still here and still alive.
Please, be safe guys. I really get a bit nausea thinking about that kid from the 954 forum last year. I don't want to see it happen again.
Take care guys.
peace.
P.S. I'd like to thank the mods and others for letting me buy an

Us northerners really have to be aware of all of the extra anti-skid (misnomer for bikers) material this icy winter has made them put down on our roads. Out my way, it's at least twice as bad as most other years partly due to an excess of rain as well. Considering we have tire/road contact patches about the size of our hands, this is a HUGE problem. Please be careful around every bend and do not assume the road is clean. Kid is right, we've lost enough already.
