Default Should I claim this accident?

OUCH! 99 cbr 900 spotless before today got in an accident. I was wondering if I should claim it? My main concern is the rates going up too much and it not be worth it for this year bike. My deductible is $250 . My car is with another insurance company. I don't even know if they can get plastics for it. I ride aggressively and was taking a pretty tight corner too fast, hit a spot with loose dirt/rocks (where they were doing construction) , and lowsided. The construction area didn't come into view till it was too late. It was my fault . I know I should've been going slower I rode the bike home. Got a wrist sprain out of it and a few scratches . I always ride protected no matter how hot it is. I have been down before in '98. I have posted some pics. The front fairing is the only one that is cracked (in 2 spots). It looks worse up close (especially the rear tail cover). Not sure how the totaling works on claims? I don't know what to do. I paid 37 for the bike a couple years ago and now kelly and nada are only showing about 3k. I went to get my wrist checked out tonight and told them I would pay for the bill myself cause I wasnt sure if I was going to claim the accident. It happened around 8pm tonight. I haven't called the insurance comp. (progressive). I did get a police report. Wanted to get some input/suggestions before I do anything. Have been wanting fuel injection though Thanks

Default A little advice

Im in the insurance biz...
* Why would this be a hit and run? Its a solo event?
* Did you get a police report? Depending on state you may need one for a claim over x-amount
* A total is when the damage comes with in x-amount of declared value. My GUESS (again state dependent) is if youre insured for 3700, anything over 2800 to 3200 its a total..
* Call your agent, tell them what happened - a good agent will give you good advice on file or not to file

I see you have Progressive.. A little bit different.. You MAY have a time frame on when to file. Did you get an estimate? MY unsolicited advise.. with a 250.00 deduct, If its more than 750.00 damage, i'd file..

I did get a police report. I read that the ins. company will find out anyway and raise rates if a police report is filed. Is this true (for NY anyway?). I don't mind fixing it myself. I already have another stator cover. I can buy some cheap chinese fairings. So I can fix it for $400 instead of pay the 250 ded. But, if they are going to raise my rates , then I want some cash out of this deal!
So, if I call and talk to them about the accident, they won't automatically raise my rates and put this on my record cause they know?

So, I have been looking around and found a few sites that say the ins. comp. will not find out unless a claim is filed or a ticket is issued. One said the police do not report it. So, i think I'm going to just fix it and not report it. I listed a couple here:
When To Report a Car Accident, When Not To and The Consequences
Car accident-police report filed- will insurance company find out? - Yahoo! Answers
Do insurance companies find out about accidents with a police report if you dont file a claim

By the way, I'm receiving a new rear rubber from chapparal today. I think that was a contributing factor to the accident. Yes, It was warmed up. I always make sure of that before doing any aggressive/stupid driving.

Default True statements

Your ins co will find out only if you file or a ticket is issued - this is correct. Just getting a police report will not raise your rates not will your ins co find out. If you could get this fixed for 750 or less, I wouldnt file.

My Jeep was parked and was in a hit and run. It was backed into, the bumper is toast. Total on the repair is 1000.00 on a 500.00 ded.. Im eating it.. Same ratio..

Good luck!

i wouldn't file that....

not near enough damage... but it's up to you. you can easily find fairings for that on ebay. it might take a month of two, but you'll find those fairings in your paint scheme in great condition. until then, just ride the rashed bike. stator covers and windscreens are also easy to come by

No, I'm not filing. I would be riding today if my wrist wasn't sore. Don't think I can squeeze the clutch lever yet. Hopefully no more than a few days, (doc said 1 week for a sprain and do activity as tolerated). I'm babying it so it heals faster. I have another stator cover Windscreen is ~$20 on ebay. I can a) get it back to where it was for about $750 b) I can replace just the upper cowl and lower cowl for about $550 which will make it look almost to what it was but with slight scratches c) I can do what you said or buy a set from china for $450-500. But, I would rather spend $750-800 for 3 new OEM panels than spend almost $500 for a set from China. I don't know what this person is smoking:

I'm with Conrice too. I had just one tail piece from china and it broke easy. I won't buy anything but OEM now
