+1 to backhand... it should work.
my gf said to me before I got the bike "It's either me or buying the bike", so a week later I rode to her house and she didn't say anything for a while (days). She got over it (I Hope). Honestly there's nothing you can say to reassure her because it is dangerous and unnecessary, but dam its one of man's greatest invention!
