Radar Detectors
About 2 months back I got a speeding ticket in my truck. It is entirely my fault, not going to deny that I wasn't doing 20 over I was just out in the country where seeing a cop on the road is a not very common. But he popped me as he was cresting a hill going the opposite direction and I had no time to even slow down. Since then I have been pondering buying a radar detector since I believe that might have warned me ahead of time and I could have saved my self the ticket and my insurance going up.
So does anyone on here have one and do they work well enough that they are worth the cash?

I have used them in all my cars for 12 or so years and it has saved me many many times!
Never used one on my bike, but I would if there were a way to completely hide it from view and just have an indicator light of some sort on the instrument panel. Having a big ugly radar detector hanging off my windscreen or the side of my bike just does not appeal to me!
Also, to be honest, that cop was probably using intant on radar and you would have been no better off having the radar detector! It will save you in some cases, but in others is completely useless!

Yes and no. They are nice cause when the police or any emergency vehicle is around it will light up giving you warning. But now days cops use instant on radar. You are lucky to get any warning at all. So if it lights up on you in a speed trap then your busted already. Plus it's annoying when you drive by certain stores and it goes off for no reason.
They are worthless because of instant-on radar, and laser. Some people say that laser won't stand up in court, but I have no idea if that is true, or if the police/judge would even care.
My suggestion - slow down on public highways and if you want to go fast go to the track.

that not entirely true. if you are the one being nailed with instant on, pop, or laser than ya your screwed but if you are traveling and there are other cars around you and ahead of you it will pick up the bounce off of them and you have time to slow down. Being alone on a country road probably would have not saved you if he was using any of these
I always thought they kept there radars on while they were driving. Never heard of "instant on radar" but it sounds like a good way to stick it to people with radar detectors. A good majority of my driving is in the country but I will probably still pick one up tho. By saving me from just one ticket it would have just paid for itself.
I'd fit a Garmin to give you true speed, and a speed control.
The instant on laser/radar will get you every time UNLESS you have a jammer fitted.
I think they are illegal though in the US.......?
And would the Judge care ?- probably not - but I'm a biker so I might....

Majority of the streets I roll on are 55mph and going over that without noticing isn't too hard and I'm not about to take my f150 to the track anytime soon lol.

Terminology I don't understand being brandished here.
