A question for my American brothers & sisters
OK,over here in G,B to have our motorcycles on the road we have to have, road tax (about £60 per year).A, M.O.T test (every 12 months),and we have to be insured,,,,,I was just wondering what rules you have in the states ???? thanks
Each state here is different with emissions test. In Indiana, just once in a lifetime take Motorcycle endorsement test and be insured. Helmets are optional in this state and mandatory in others.
For the most part in the US there is an annual registration (which you pay tax), annual safety inspection, motorcycle endorsement test for your license, and you can't get your registration renewed without proof of insurance.
Florida doesnt require insurance. Some dealerships dont even require insurance while youre making payments, but it depends on what bank they use. Helmet law is under 21 its manditory (plate says under 21) if youre over 21 and dont wear it you need eye protection and health insurance.
I was just into the Dmv last week. U do not need insurance now to get tabs or to register. That's why 1 out of 4 drivers don't have insurance.
here in ohio you have to get registration every year ($48) you have to be insured and wear a helmet for the first year after you get license. after that helmet is optional but you have to wear eye protection.
Montana: Take a written and driving test, you're good to go for anything from a scooter to a 1000RR. License your new bike once, it's good for the rest of the time you own it. No inspections, no retesting unless you forget to renew your driver's license once every eight years.
I don't have to re-license until I'm 74. Then I'm good until I'm 82
Sad, isn't it? Of course, since I'm the world's best driver and age will never affect my reaction time or vision or anything so everything will be fine.

wow,,here in gb we have to do a cbt,(compulsory bike training) this takes a day, before we can even go on the road, this lasts for 2 years, after that you have to take a theory test before you can apply for your tests. Our bike test is in two parts, you can do the restricted test,on a 125cc thats a off road machine handling test,,,were you do slarloms, figure of 8,s, emergancy stops, etc,if you pass that then you can take your main road test,if you pass that you can only ride a bike thats under 33 bhp, then your restricted to this for two years, then you can ride anything,
if you want to take the test were you can ride any size bike, straight away, you have to do the same test on a 500 cc bike, but you can only do this when you over 21 years old,oh and you have to wear the proper gear,,otherwise they can refuse to test you.The law is always changing over here,,,think I am gonna emigrate to the states

California...helmet is mandatory! Annual Registration fee about $80 for my 94'....it's priced luxury depending value of motor vehicle...I used to pay $500 for my 06' Audi A6 back in 08' so you figure what's like to buy a brand new car...
$15 dollars to take your written test (can only get 3 wrong out of 21 questions multiple choice...) once passed you get a permit which you can ride during daylight...no passengers...no highways......you then get 3 try to schedule & take you skills test...once passed, you are now a class M drivers license for a long as your license expires every 10 years. To renew, you just take a written test.
If you want to skip to DMV (department of motor vehicle) skill test & written test) you just pay a CHP course...takes 2-3 full days @ $300 or so...once completed, you are licensed in the state of Cali....
