I live in a part of the world that is developing very quickly. The population of my community has increased from around 40,000 to 90,000 since 1983. Places that used to be open fields have filled in with suburbs... and some of the best roads (the twisty ones) are lined with acreages. These newly "ruralized" occupants tend to drive large SUV's and pull out in the middle of every corner. My favorite section of highway has turned into a suburb, so the spirited rides of my youth can't be duplicated there without putting myself and others in jeopardy.
There is comfort in seeing a place that seems to change little through time.

We have a lot of sleepy villages like this in the UK ... my own village of Bunbury is one such place too ... often people don't believe the place until they see it with their own eyes, then they never want to leave ... that bridge in the pictures is the same one that has been there since 1661
I bet you could stand on it then and see virtually the same views I was looking at ... change is very over rated in my book
