Seems like a boatload of crap to me, that's the way I *thought* we were supposed to park.

I was always told to park like that because if you put both wheels up against the curb, Cars can just glance at the spot, think its empty and then start backing into the spot, smashing the hell out of your bike. I think you should organise a multi-club ride in your town and everyone just take a single parking space during business hours, keep filling spaces as cars leave till they are all full......that would **** enough business leaders off that the dick cop would probably get fired!

after reading all that, you have to be right. what it boils down to is not the law contradicting the MSF course... its the dumb *** meter maid (or cop) who probably just doesn't like bikes and doesn't know the law like he/she should.

The best solution is to search through the vehicle code of all written laws concerning parking and motorcycles, prove that you are not in violation and fight it in court. Also if you can search past cases for this issue (preferably higher court rulings). The other thing that might be helpful is to find the literature on why it's unsafe for you to park parallel to the curb (this also opens potential liability to the state - but I doubt it would hold). Look up accident data where parking a motorcycle parallel to the curb was the issue (I didn't see it).

It's up to you to defend yourself when it comes to the law.
