he said MSRP was only 70k. now, yes thats ALOT of money but i was expecting much more.
MRSP is only 70K but dealer markup probably added another $15k to it. I've heard some people have paid over $100k for their GTRs. The dealership up the street from us here received 22 of these cars last month, and every single one of them was sold before they got off the truck. So far we've seen 3 of them.

After all is said and done, I'm glad Nissan finally brought the "skyline" over here to the states, but there is just so much left to be desired with this car. Now, I will said I am a fan of some styling cues on this car (the front fenders and the WIDE rear end especially...of course that is accentuated with the infamous separated 4 lens taillights)...the front end and side of the car are a bit too boring for what they were going for. A Mitsu-Evo IX is quite a bit more aggressive looking for 1/2 the price.

its not a high performance german car
unless im reading it wrong or it being not german has something to do with it.... you wouldnt consider 0-60 in 3.5 sec (or less depending on the source but i figured i would go with a slow estimate) not high performance?

besides i think that it is a dam good looking car

don't separate the words "high performance GERMAN car"....its not some bad *** AMG....so why would it be priced any higher than what it is? And those people who paid 100k+ are insane...nissan has never gotten into this league of performance, i wouldn't want to be the test dummies

nissan has made prototype lemans racecars...some of which were the most powerful on the grid, albeit they had some problems but so has mazda(fanboys of the 787 like to think it is the best racecar ever made for some reason), toyota and a ton of others have also struck bad luck on the track

The R390GT1...competed at the 97 and 98 24 hours of lemans. in 97 1 of the 4 nissans entered finished 12th overall, in 98 all four finished with a best of 3rd overall...that's in a grid packed with mercedez clk-gtrs and porsche gt1s.

don't forget the r90c...the thing made 1000hp and wasn't too bad in the 1990-93 seaons...and that was 18 years ago!

nissan has the capabilities to built some seriously badass stuff but I assume they are a bit more conservative in developing an entire high-performance division that rivals that of chevrolet or porsche...they know where the money is and right now it's not in making supercars. I'm a huge Porsche fan but I recognize that they've been associated with high performance since the 50s so to be fair to nissan, you can't just jump into this area of market and expect to sell cars.
Over here a lot of people don't recognize nissan's acheivments on the track (except for the desktop racers that simply recognize dyno numbers). I think the GT-R is a look at things to come from nissan. It's already impressed a lot of enthusiast magazines like car and driver and that magazine is a medium of information to a lot of people that take their cars seriously. I'd say half the corvettes on the road are bought by people that "just want a corvette"(just look at how many plain jane automatic corvettes there are out there) but I bet a good number of GT-Rs on the road are actually bought by people that take driving and their purchase a bit more seriously. Kinda like the guy that buys the $15,000 MV Agusta vs. the guy who buys the $12,000 hayabusa...there are a lot of posers out there on 'busas but I'm willing to bet there's not too many jaggoffs on a MV...not to say that there aren't serious busa riders at the same time.

I think a lot f people are underating this car. I love Nissans but also a lot of other cars. On paper put it up against a lot of cars and there is a small list that are better for that price. lets talk apples to apples no just ooking at any car with an engine that does 0-60 in 3.5 lets talk 4 seater 6 cylinder cars that actually get more than 10mpg! I can also say I could buy a mustang or camaro or insert basic car platform and put 20k in the engine and beat something more expensive; yeah but you are still riding in a camaro with crap brakes same styling as the guy sitting next to you and cheaper every other part on the car. The styling is iffy but if you just look at her rear it makes you all warm and fuzzy inside.
