goin from textile to leather this season cause it just makes sense. narrowed my search to an icon or a alpinestars, theres one of each brand that i am willing to shell out 350 for, which one do yall prefer?

 

i personally like Joe Rocket, but AlpineStars is a great company. Icon is fairly new so im not familiar with their stuff. If it has CE rated armor, then it is fine...you are gonna be good no matter what one you pick. if your looking for cheaper prices, Newenough.com has stuff for way under retail...new enough is just a name, they sell brand new stuff, that is where i got my 2 pc suit and textile jacket from...great Customer Service IMO

 

Ive got an Icon Daytona Retro...great lookin jacket fits great and an Joe Rocket Textile....lookin at the new 07 model textile ...looks good too

 

just curious, does it just make sense for your particular riding, or is that the "sensible" thing to do in general? Not flaming or trying to start an argument here, but seeing if im missing something that i didnt know about jackets.

 

i love my ICON merc hero leather jacket. i had a textile jacket and now i have my leather. personally i love the leather better. it makes me feel better, especially if/when i go down. it has armor , a removable inner-liner for added warmth in cold riding, also has a inner pocket that works perfect for holding things when you dont want to take a back pack ( i have been able to fit 2 packs of poptarts, insurance, reg and my permit paperwork and a power cord for a computer all at one time) and probably one of the best things i like about it is the fact that it has a st.christopher medal on the inner pocket that covers the heart i love alot of the icon lineup including the helmets. i dont really care for their gloves but that is a different thread lol... hope this helps you in making a decesion

 

You can do better than Icon (I don't like them too much). Alpinestars is pretty good (but expensive for what you get). I perfer Shift Jackets. You can pick up a damn good leather one (like I did) for $199 on clearance right now. Even their top end jackets are well priced, top notch quality, and $350 bucks will go a long way.

I have the Icon TiMax textile jacket for summer and a River Road leather jacket that I picked up at my dealer for colder rides. I personally like Icon's gear line, that Merc Hero jacket is sexy

I have an icon daytona. I like this jacket sinceits not to flashy andit looks close to something you'd find on the street, other than the stupid patch on the chest. Its seems to be good quality,heard of people taking spills in this coat and were impressed with the protection. I'm alsolooking at buying a new alpinestars jacket too, likely a TZ-1.
