New home looking for idea's!!
Hey guys, I'm moving into my first house in December, its being built still, and all the walls come plain white. I was looking at doing an accent wall or two in the living room. I was curious if anyone has done this and what colors they have done. Pics would be GRRRRRRRREEEEEEAAAAAAT!
Repainting wouldn't be a bad idea if the wall wasn't 24ft long and 18ft tall. I'd really like to do a red but my mother and my friend both have red accent walls.
And red will take three coats...omg. Don't bother.
If your walls and trim will be the same white color and sheen, it's hard to do a single accent wall and have it look nice. It depends on how white the white is, and where the wall is...how much light it gets, etc. Sounds like you have a long, vaulted wall somewhere, so if it looks like a good place for some mood-inspiring color, try to pick one that makes you feel comfortable. Get some quart samples and roll out a few swatches.
And there's no effing reason whatsoever you can't have the painters have the paint store tint the white at least a little, so that you don't feel like you're moving into a frigging hospital...
omg listen to me sound like a pessimistic professional painter...I'm sorry. Congratulations on the new home, seriously. Enjoy.

The thing with accents or any statements made with paint I think , is that they are a personal taste thing at the end of the day mate.. you can get away with murder if you personally like the look
..
My misses is near to crazzy as you can get with color :-)
I do like the results ...
Probabley, me, .. if I had my way would be a little more conservative , but that is not the case , she is the Boss !![8D]
I threw a few pics in to show how bold you can get .... or at least my misses gets ..
by the way ...I had to paint those colors ..shes a lousy painter mate
Entrance Gallery (upstairs)

**** ...yer me in the door to our sun room

Kitchen looking through to some of the other rooms.. ( she did our bedroom in 3 blues !! ) no ****!
looks good but have no picks of it yet..

Upstairs retreat sitting room ( its a good view out that window when it bloody open ) ?

The trend we have here and one I like are off whites ... we have these paints we call "hint of tints" etc ..white alone is just too stark but a nice warm off white colour suits just about any room, I quite like almond white and the merest hint of peach for a warmth to the colour ..the thinking is its your furnishings and curtains etc that add the colour and contrast ... if your walls are too "busy" or too dark they can make a room look a bit oppressive, small and dark ...
Here is an example of how well a small cottage room for example can look in an "off white" ..the plain walls give the cottage a feeling of lightness and space despite the small size ..the painting adding a nice bold splash of colour :-) ..its that old "less is more" thing ...

Also the beauty of having walls plain painted is when it comes to redecorating I can just get out my roller and go over it in the same colour in a jiffy .. and its quick and easy to roller over scuffs and marks :-)

Yer Jules... you are correct , it is the trend ..but it is a little too sterile I think...
A bit too much like an office building foyer...
The white on white definatley is the way to sell a house , make it look bigger , cleaner and appealing to a wider variety of people.
... but at the end of the day , we have to live in them ! ...
The white on white is not very warm ... nor inviting on a cold winters day .. [:'(]
Thats why people do paint walls as features I think ..to get away from the totally sterile look ?
