Default New bike soon! Need info.

Hopefully by the end of summer I'll be able to pick one up, I'm really saving hard right now. These are the two bikes im looking at and I need your input.

I don't know a ton about these companies but I do know that past models have required a lot more mantinence than jap bikes. This is what I'm really trying to find out. What kind of gas milage are these bad boys getting? Hows the reliability? What else do you know that I need to know? Like my bike right now it will be daily driven.

The bummer is that these bikes are heavy but I learned on a katana so it won't be a big deal.

The Aprilias and Ducatis are really sharp bikes, but I'd never buy either...they'll be in the shop as often as a hardley ableson. I know they require fairly frequent valve adjustments and if the ducati has the desmosedici or desmodromic valve system, it'll be in there all the time. If you're looking to branch out from the jap bikes, I hear many great things about the new triumph 675, although since it's new, it hasn't been proven quite yet. I think if you were to ride either of those on a regular basis, you'd wish you bought another jap bike. They're high end sport bikes...much like a Ferarri; Pretty cool until it's got some miles on it then you really start paying for it.

I personally see no need to spend the money on one of those. The technology on the jap bikes is amazing. Your paying 2-3thousand more for those bikes to a litre jap bike, and not getting as much out of it.
Those bikes have Less Hp, they weigh more, cost more, aren't as reliable...Where is the upside?

IMO If you have that much money i would buy a CBR1000RR/R1/Gsx1000R/ZX10-R and use the extra 2-3grand for gear and modifications.

Thats not what I wanted to hear (I already knew all that but I didn't want to hear it). I'm huge on the looks and I love the riding difference in two cylinder bikes. If I had things my way I'd get a new bike every 3 months because I love bike differences. I'm over the whole 4 cylinder thing for now. Maybe I'll get the Tomahawk next.

Yeah, it's a shame that they aren't exactly known for reliability and lack of maintenance. They are both really sharp bikes, along with the MV Augustas, but then it's getting close to $20k. If you like the twins, have you looked at the RC51?

Actually everything I have heard about the Aprillia and the Duc is awesome. The aprillia engine is designed and built by Rotax, A company that is known for building some of the most reliable airplane and ultralight motors in the world. I love Hondas but I would not dog either one of them True that the HP numbers are not there but the torque its. It would be nice to have a new bike that you dont see five a day of, on the road. Look at the Jap bike counter part to the factory R, The R1 LE got all the factory hopups such as Ohlins suspension, Brembos and OZ rims and the price tag 18k the same as the Factory R. Personally different is better. Just my two cents but ask someone that owns a aprillia or a Duc about thier quality because alot of people will talk crap about them with absolutly no experience with them. Oh BTW just strictly hear say but from what I have heard The RC51 has problems sittiing in traffic, the side mounted radiators dont flow enough air. So it may not be a great daily rider, but dont take my word for it talk to some one that OWNS ONE.
