My tires still safe?
So I have 4k miles on my stock dunlops and I do a lot of commuting as my bike is my only source of transportation. In the middle of the tire, off center to the left, there is about a 3"ish wide flat spot. I can see it because it's a different color and I felt it to see if maybe it was dust picking up from the road and there is a small ridge where it flattens out. When I was riding on the freeway today coming around a turn I can hear a hum which I'm assuming is because I have a flat spot on the tire. Is this still ok to ride on? What about riding hard through some corners? If possible I would like to wait until next season before I throw on some PP's.

Do you know how to read the TWI (tread wear indicators)???
You will have little bumps hidden inside the tread design. Once the bumps are even/flat with the tread, it's time to start shopping for new tires.

If your worried about enough to post it on this forum, then you I think you know you should replace em'.
It's a few $$$'s, but you can't put a price on safety or peace of mind.

All tires are going to develop the normal flat spot right in the middle of the tire. If there is abnormal wear (something that stands out and looks wrong) it usually is. I would say get a new tire. $150-200 is a small price to pay for not ending up in the median.
Also, I have the stock Dunlop Sportmax tires, and also have about 4,000 on them. I figure I have about 1000 miles MAX left on them if I ride it normally, and not push it. I'm REALLY close to my wear bars on the flat spot in the middle of the tire.

i got 4200 miles out of my stock tires and that was only because i ran over a screw at the end. they will definately go to 5000 if you arent a squid and do burnouts at every other red light to impress some blond in a drop top camaro. My 2 cents
Never done a burnout, don't even know how or would want to try it what a waste of a tire! I'd much rather do a wheelie to impress a chick (if I knew how to do one of those). I think I'll just use the tires til the end of the season as there isn't much riding time left in WI. I have no idea what the wear indicators are I've just heard people talk about them. I'll go home and actually look at the tire and see if I can figure that out.
