an endless debate.......
an endless debate.......
More money could equal more safety ..I mean I know nothing about these labels but lets say for instance on a safety scale of 10 you need a 7 to get a pass and get the label but a more expensive lid passes with a 9 or 10 ... so is "more safe" but both get the same label leading people to conclude its all equal ..just throwing that out there ..

very correct.......I would never buy anything with JUST the DOT sticker....the snell rating is far more rigid. but like they say...you do get what you pay for 95% of the time. I think I have all toll as much in safety riding gear as I spent on the base bike. both times I went down....was under 40mph. and both would have been lethal had I not been wearing good gear. kills me to see these ginks in the brain buckets and shorts on a harley....they say: I don't need that kinda crap I don't ride like that.....course not...but go down and get tangled in 800-900 pounds of chrome and see what happens. or hit part of you skull that isn't covered
there was a magazine that did extensive testing of helmets about 1-2 years ago. they took shoi, hjc, bell and number of other helmets. there was a ton of things to come out of the study. one of which not all helmets have the same safety factor depending on an accident. believe it or not one of the things was the fiberglass and carbon fiberhelmets were less safe then the others depending on the crash becuase they did not absorbe the impact as well. one of the other things they concluded was that price does not = safty. but that being said they did see some of the cheaper helmets not being able to take some impacts as well. but when you reach a point you paying for features like light weight materials and so forth. depending on how and where you ride should have a bigger inpact on the type of helmet you buy then the price tag.

That does not mean everyone should run out and buy a $100 helmet without firsts thinking.
I am also certain that most of the $200 - $250 range helmets that are fully aproved are quite ok and can be trusted as much as a $450 one ..
As was said ...it depends on the type of impact that occurs , as to whether you and yu lid stay in one piece during a crash !!!
Me.....I prefer to make dam sure that I do not even scratch my helmet, let alone trying it out under serious accident conditions ...

Yer ... I am sure allot of the more expensive helmets are only expensive due to the name brand and the hype they push to justify their prices ....

hehe.. made me think of a story..
I was at work and my buddy pulled in with his new bike and new helmet.. and he asked me to hold the helmet. As I was holding it I dropped & cracked it! man that sucked.. had to buy the guy a new helmet. I felt arguing it with him a bit because he asked me to hold it.. But it was in my hands and i dropped it so I hooked him up.
