My Girls New helmet... Input before I buy please...
Dah, BS! Just like how a plugged tire will explode and kill you so you better replace it with a brand new one. If these cheap helmets didnt work/protect do you really think they would be on the market?
If I had the cash for somethin nice Id like an Arai or Shoei, but in the meantime theres nothing wrong with a cheap helmet. Its much better than nothing, and I dont have to worry about scratching a precious work of art.

Bah, humbug !
How d'you know how many people have died as a result of cheap helmets ? It's not a statistic that the manufacturers would know, (or want to know)maybe E.R.Doctors, and even they can't tell you for sure. I'd ride with a plugged tyre (have done, often) before I'd go with a real cheapie helmet. There are however guys who will swear they survived ( Pamw for one) who would've died or had serious injury in a cheapo helmet. A cheapo's better than nothing, sure, but there's no substitute for quality.
I'll never knock anyone who buys the best he/she can afford, all I'm saying is, buy the best you can, and if you look after it, hopefully it'll never need to look after you.

I must say, when I was lookin for an MX helemt this summer I passed over a large amount of those AFX helmets. The Z1R was at a 70% discount and I have lived thru their quality once so it was my best choice at the time. You have no worrys here Shadow, I have a nice lil lady at home to take care of my vegetable *** when that day comes when I loose against a tree. Fair enough NFP - this was never a bash each other debate, but the noobs read this too, and some of them may stay alive a bit longer as a result.
If you hit a tree in Wisconsin (you have trees) ?
God forbid that should happen !
I'll come over and feed you soup......

It's all in good fun - [sm=headbang.gif][sm=icon_cheers.gif]

HJC baby! hehe.. cheap good helmets to me.. maybe one day i'll shell out for a shoei or arai, but I beat the **** out of my helmets... like northern said.. Id hate to scratch a $700 helmet (artwork)
^ Agree. I read reviews, and HJC is prolly the best cheap helmet you can buy. Beats KBC hands down anyway, and they're similarly priced. My brother has an Arai, and I'll probably get one next year, but I didn't have the moolah at the time.
If you have money, Arai ftw
If you have money, Arai ftw
...when ya buy a bike from a dealer they add all the extras in...jacket helmet etc.....I stacked it. yes the monthly bill went up a lil.....but I did not have to shell out 2000.00 in cash for very good riding gear. think about it next time your buying a bike....
I did this when I bought the CBR. I got the 07 2500 under sticker...so adding a the extras was no big deal.

I believe, that helmets that pass DOT and the current Snell certifications are safe enough. That means most of HJC helmets qualify. I feel that buying the more expensive helmets is like buying a luxury car...you are buying more for comfort; whether it's lighter weight, better fit, more ventilation, or more aerodynamic. I'm not so sure that more money = safer in a accident.
