My CBR got me my dream Job today!
So I got up off the pity pot today, cleaned up, and rode into the Ville to get a job. I did. Dishwasher at Yee's Chinese isn't my dream job, but it's the one I got. So, afterwards, I felt good and it was a sunny day, and I took a ride up to the local Ski Resort (Ski Apache). The 25 mile long road is bumpy, gravel-infested, repleat with hairpin turns at all angles, and infested with wildlife. I've been using this road to improve my riding skills. Today, I get up to the top, park, and just walk around, dreaming of working up here. (I've raced here.)
So then a guy (Owen)starts a conversation with me because he used to ride a ...that's right Honda fans !!..a CBR! This is critical, because it turns that Owen works Ski Patrol and he tells me all I gotta do is come on in and they'll sign me up. (I'm ...like...Oh Snap!) It was late, so he said that, when I'm ready, just come up and talk to a guy named "Crow". (I'm...like...Oh Snap!) So, I feel as if my CBR got me my dream job today, all because this guy Owen used to ride a CBR.
You meet the nicest people on a Honda.

isn't ski patrol a seasonal job in NM? also, don't you have to be an expert in being able to get to an injured person. and need certs for everything from first aid to resuscitation. not to rain on your parade, but do you even know the job description?

RE: My CBR got me my dream Job today!
Dwhite645, man, I was like Jim Carrey in The Grinch! Stare off into space, vacantly, until noon, then self-loathing until dinner, which turns to dust in the mouth because yourealize the futility of existence. Yup, that was me, just 24 hours ago. Thanks to this Forum, I'm a new man.
Brother Demonchild, I totally hear where you are coming from, friend. It's a dream. If I want it to bea reality, I should work my way back to where I am, and pick up where the realities meet. Right now, that place is Yee's Chinese. And, hell yeah I know the general requirements of the job, and that's why it's so great! Iam totally andsingularlyqualified for this job! Man, I've skiied everywinter, all over the world, since I could walk. I am an Expert skiier. I learned how to skion this mountain. Today I got to touch the rusty old ropetow that I started on, forty winters ago. Also in my favor:Foryears, as a (Seasonal)" Parkie"(USNPS Ranger) I was a Nationally Registered Wilderness EMT, and I saw some stuff. In W-EMTschool, my teacher said of me: "If I'm ever FUBAR, I hope it's you I'm looking up at." I'm really good in bad situations. Life experience.Another plus for me:The Mescalero Apache own and operate the resort, and I spent the first six years of my life, living among them, up at Mescalero. I have a good feeling about this. I feel qualified. I can ski well, and I know the Mountain like the back of my hand.I was an EMT, had countless SAR's (SearchAnd Rescues) on Marin Headlands Cliffs. Plus I know the local culture and my cabin is one of the nearest privately owned domeciles, just 25 miles down the road.
There's alot I don't know anything about, like Hondas, and Internet protocol, so I try and quietly learn from y'all. But I know Skiing, and I know Mountaineering very well. Lone Wolf stuff, not alot of Team stuff. But, now, thanks to this Owen guy, I feel like Ishould try to contribute what I do knowto this CBR team.
So, I've been going nuts as I hunt this job! "Going through channels", over at Human Resources, reading the job board and waiting for the announcements, which don't even come out for a month. And then I meet this guy, Owen, and nowI can go direct to the hiring official (Crow). I hope that in talking to him this early in the season, I can get whatever certification he needs. I've heard they train and certify on the hill. I'll be happy if they hire me as a dishwasher too. Anyway, it just feels really good to feel good again. Thanks, all. Pax,G.

congrats man, i'm just a couple hours away here in Lubbock, we'll probably be coming up to Ruidoso labor day weekend. i've never been before, where's a good place to stay? and are the casinos pretty nice? i haven't really heard a whole lot about them, mostly because the people i've talked to about going there came back about $1,000 down from playing blackjack or something. i'll have to check out Ski Apache too. we were considering Angelfire, but i'm not sure which one is better (or closer).

hey that's good stuff Raven, I would love a job like that at some point, too. I skied (is that spelled right?) in Utah (hands down, best place in the world to ski/snowboard, don't care what anyone else says), which is where I'm originally from and one time I got offered a job like that, and I'm not even close to having the experience you say you have. But anyway it seems like you're pretty excited about it so give it all you got. Can't wait to go hit the slopes this winter!

NICE! I love Ski Apache. My aunt has owned a cabin in Ruidoso for years and I have been several times....we always go to Ski Apache. Be careful on the route up there, I'd be terrified riding that road on my bike, hell, I'm terrified driving it in the cage.
