How long is the race?
The cobalt willrev up a little faster with the lower rotating mass of the v6 and it is a quick little car. But the v8 will take over in a longer race. I have had several stangs in the past and I love the v8 power but you need to send the stang on a diet to make it a good racer. My last one we took out almost 300lbs in crap in the car.

 

The race is going to be a little over a 1/4 mile. Cops and traffic permitting at 1am on an old country road...

 

Cobalt is a 4cyl, not a v6.

 

True, the Cobalt is a four banger, but I've made the mistake of only thinking the SS Cobalts were all force-fed 4s. They actually offer a supercharged 4 and a V6 in SS edition.

 

Actually due to the weight they are not as fast as they could be.

Mine sounds like that except in a lighter gt body ..

I read most of the thread but not all of it so this may be unneccesary.

The Cobalt SS runs a 6.1 and 14.9

The GT runs a 5.1 and 13.9

I go with the more experienced driver. I have won and lost races due to human error. I have beat Vipers and have lost to Civics with the same car. No amount of talking can overcome the driver's ability to properly hook up and get down the track. Missing a shift or launching wrong can end your day fast. Every day fast cars get beat by good drivers.
