motorcycle for a 3 yr old
Well, it looks like I've been out voted. I should have known better than to ask about this from a motorcycle forum..lol..Oh well, I still think he's too young and don't see him getting one for Christmas..Sorry HC..
Can you little one ride a bicycle profficiently at 3 years old?
(my oldest girl still can't at 5) I'd say hold off the motorbike until he is pretty comfortable riding a bicycle.

3 seems way young to me. I mean come on. 3 years out of 100 years he can live. I dont know. I never had anything cool till I bought my first bike when I was 21. LOL
I'd wait till at least 5. You're spoiling the kid.
Just getting used to a tricycle and guys on here want him to get a 50cc bike. Sounds like some busa for a first bike talk. LOL

Playing devils advocate, and speaking from 1st hand knowledge here, the bicycle is not "neccessary" before the motorcycle. I recieved my first motorcycle before Ihad a bicycle. Yeah, it was a slow, 50cc dirtbike. And yes, it had an adjustable throttle stop, so whenI firstrode it, its top speed wasn't anything more than a fast walk for Dad--that way he was able to keep me from being too stupid (I was THAT kid--jumpover or off of anything, climb anything, you get the idea. I've got quite the collection of scars and broken bones, but none from bikes until just last year whenIhit a deer). Training wheels, while a decent idea, are not completely neccessary either. He will just have to re-learn to ride when the wheels come off, as the physics and steering are different. That being said,L'il HCis still the son of BOTH of you, and two unmoveable opinions are only going to hurt him in the long run. What about a Power-wheel bike for a year? A decent compromise, HC gets to see his son on two wheels (sorta), and Poet doesn't have to worry about catastrpohic accidents.
As a side note to Poet--I know you are his mother and it's your job to love and protect him, which you very obviously do. BUT--he is a boy, and we like to ride motorcycles and do all sorts of stupid sh*t--so you will need to reconcile yourself to the fact that you will be taking him to the hospital for stitches and casts throughout childhood...not necessarily from motorcycle crashes, but from all sorts of boyhood activities. Believe me, it's a fact. I went so often my folks actually got investigated by child-services, thinking I may have been abused...nope, I was just fearless. Also, you never have to stop worrying about him (hell, I'm 30, married, and haven't lived at home for 12 years--my mother still worries about me), but don't let YOUR feelings/fears as a Mother dictate what he can/can't do...trust me, he'll know. If he hops on his first bike and it scares him, he won't get back on it until he's comfortable--kids aren't stupid.
Sorry for the speech, I'll step down off my soapbox now.
