I went down with my mesh and it saved my life. It was a Shift, Mesh jacket, And if it wasn't for the paramedics cutting it off of me, It would still work.
Leather is the ultimate protection, and granted, mesh and textile can only go to some leghts to protect against road rash. But it does the trick.

+1 on not using mesh or textile if you are going to be doinng 50+
there is a reason they dont EVER use textile, mesh in moto GP. Or in any other track related activity. but for street riding It is more than addecuate. (at least better than t shirt an flip flops) LOL

Have multiples of each. This is a small sample of of them. I do prefer the two-piece AGV. I'm wearing in my avatar. I will also say in my opinion When It Comes to Mesh and textile. There is only about an ounce of difference between the two as far as quality of material and will confirm the fact that both of them are disposable gear after a trip on the pavement. Leather as it has been pounded into all of our heads as well as some of our hides offers the best protection. And in some cases is rideable without any repair

Now the AGV on the far left is a hybrid perforated leather with some textile material. It has the aerodynamics hump and is 70% leather with full armor. As Woodyracing mentioned earlier, and and I have no wish to pavement test it, but it should hold up better than the textile or mesh I have used most all of the major brands and still have quite a few of them in my collection. But because of my size AGV fits the best and they are the easiest to order custom leathers from

If you want the best from both worlds (textile for ventilation and hot weather riding, AND leather for protection, then the Shift Streefighter is your best choice. I chose this jacket because it has textile in the places you need ventilation, and leather in all the places where you are most likely to end up grinding down in a crash.

Both of my crashes (the 70 mph lowside and 40 mph collision) took place while I was wearing my Shift leather jacket, and both times I landed on my left arm and slid on my elbow. I never had soreness or even scratches because of that jacket. If only I were wearing leather pants.........[&:]

But I recently purchased this jacket (Shift Streetfighter) as the best all-rounder. There really isn't a substitute for the protection an all leather jacket provides, but it has leather in all the areas that you are most likely going to be sliding on. In my two crashes, my leather jacket sustained rash on the elbow, shoulder and chest area...........the exact places where there's leather on this jacket, so again, another reason why I chose this particular jacket.

oh, and Hamster bought this one............

Goes great with the white/red scheme of his bike.
