do you guys think im crazy for not accepting this?
No you aren't crazy, but I think you should stop riding for a while for your Parents sake.

i mean they sit with me in the E.R atleast 20 times a year. and they never complain.
I really think if you loved them, you would wait a few years, it sounds like you are a little un-lucky at times and maybe wait until your luck/judgement/skills don't leave you in the Hospital so often.

I think if you were my kid I would respect you alot more if you just said ' I don't want your money, but I'll wait 3 or 4 years until I ride again. After all, you are only17, you got a lot of years to ride again, give your parents a little break.

Remember, if they want you to stop riding, it is easy enough for them to FORCE you to stop riding. It also sounds like you have a pretty sweet deal goin, 17 years old, snowboarding, sky diving, nice motorcycle, underage tattoos, I'd hate to see the party end for you. If you were my kid, I probably wouldn't have even asked you, I would have told you, then taken a sledgehammer to your bike until it was scrap. If you back talked I would have ended your little party until you understood who is the boss or you moved out.

But yourParents aren't Sicilian like I am amd my Parents were, they sound very civilized and kind. They want you to man-up and simply respect their wishes which I think you should do. Sometimes we sacrifice a little for our loved ones.

If you were my child doing something I didn't want you to do, I would just put my foot down and say no way, not as long as you're living in my house. Your mom didn't do that, because she doesn't just want to force you to do something against your will. She really wants you to make this decision, with her just sweetening the pot a little, but also letting you know how important this is to her.

I ride, so I'm not in a position to preach to anyone. Butyou should consider why you're spending so much time in the emergency room. Sometimes you just have to wait for your judgment to catch up to your skills and daring. Maybe you should agree to stay off the bike until you're 21 or something.

Best wishes to you and your folks, whatever you decide.

What in Gods name are you doing to make 20 visits to the ER a year? That nearly every two weeks! If I was your parents I think I'd lock you in a padded room.

Maybe, take a smaller amount and take sometime off for your parents sake as fryer put it. Then when you have you're own place, start riding again.

i dont think i'd take $5k to quit riding........wait.........i WOULDNT take $5k to quit riding!!!! but im also 23 paying for my own bike yada yada i'll save the rest.

i agree w/ fishfryer. they shouldnt have to pay you to put your passion on hold. you seem to have the local hospital/ambulance/medivac on speedial.....and im sure your parents worry themselves to death when you're out on the bike (when you were). i say (again, just my opinion) that you should give it a break for a bit, and refuse the money. you think they'll be relieved and happy when you say you'll stop for a bit.........think of how much of an man you'd be in their eyes....how mature, if you also refused their $5k and just quit on your own.

as said before, you seem to have it pretty damn good so far........why screw it all up. no harm, but you seem accident prone.

One thing you won't understand for a while, Jay. Is what kind of mental anguish your parents are going through.

Try and do something else for them. Take both MSF courses. Let them come and watch you. Get some really nice gear (use the cold excuse), back protectors, shin guards, etc. Just get all kinds of gear and do as much as you can to ease your moms mind that yes, you do value your life and you'd hate to see or know that she was hurting.

I'm telling you man. It's stuff like this kids just simply won't understand until they're at the park with their kids and something happens or you simply lose sight of your little one. It will humble you as an adult and you might find yourself surprised on how you react and maybe even subsequent actions (like offering your little one $5K to sit tight).

I'm just playing the devils advocate here. I'm not saying to not ride, I'm simply saying to ease the poor wamans mind all you can. How old are your parents? I bet they're what, between 32 and 36? Hell, half our members here are in that age group - I'm sure they can vouch for what I'm saying.

Take it easy on ol' moms, will ya? She loves you.
