Admittedly I did it once, it's a stupid story and I don't feel like telling it, anyway, I will never ride without a helmet again. Up at the beach on the very slow and congested part of the road I would probably comsider it. But without it what chance do you have in an accident? UHHHH NONE!

thats true, in our state you have to wear a helmet and the majority of sportbikers due its more of the crusier that i see just wearing those small teacups on their head with some dark shades.

A friend of mine works as an occupational therapist in a convalescent home here in the area. She was telling me about a guy that lives there who is in his mid thirties now. He had an accident on his bike about 5 years ago. He wasn't wearing a helmet and didn't break anything else, but his head hit a rock as he was falling. He doesn't remember anything now, not his name, his family, ANYTHING, at least not for more than 5 minutes. He's going to spend the rest of his life in constant care. Had he been wearing a helmet he would have walked away from the accident. I NEVER get on my bike now without my helmet. Around the quad cities almost everyone I see on a sportbike is wearing a helmet, and most of the people on other metric bikes wear them too. But I rarely see a helmet on Harley guys. It amazes me that guys who want to be "big tough bikers" aren't willing to wear a helmet and be made fun of by their "friends". They'd rather live the rest of their lives in the produce section than be smart and safe and take the heat from their buddies.

And I love the guys who say "you know, you're chances of being hurt in an accident go up because of that helmet you're wearing, it'll break your neck" Yeah, and a police officer's chance of being hurt when getting shot goes up because of that kevlar vest they're wearing.

Frankly, I love wearing my helmet. I love the feeling that nobody knows who you are, it's like being in my own little world when I shut that super dark visor.

No helmet law here. It amazes me. I see about 90% of all riders don't wear helmets and the #1 thing I hear is I just don't like them. I admit there are a few times I ride my bike about a mile to the fire station I work at and I don't wear my helmet, besides that it is always on. Same with my wife. It amazes me that I see guys all geared up and then thier girl is riding on the back with nothing, just doesn't make sense to me. If you were it, so should all your riders!!

I've heard the neck injury thing before, I thought it was bullcrap then and I still do but even if its true, consider the consequences of a spinal injury versus a brain injury. Would you rather live in a wheelchair or as a vegetable, or more likely die because your skull gets smashed?

Yeah, that didn't make sense to me either. rippn, did we miss something? But in response to the original post. Wouldn't make sense to me either. Here in CA, its a law, but even if it wasn't, I'd still wear a lid.

I'm so sorry to confuse...Remember, I'm the idiot that wanted to know how to "back it in" w/ linked brakes !!!!!!!!!!!! clean and free, only smoke'n harleys !!!!!!!!!!!! Ripp'n
