After reading some of these other posts, this reminds me of my best "cop" story...

I was going 65mph (10 over the 55mph speed limit) in my 300ZX, coming home late from work. Before I knew it, I had a domestic behind me. I thought it was either a Dodge Neon or a Ford Taurus (similar front end / headlight scheme). I signaled and turned into the lane second to the right so he could pass me. The car didn't pass me, it just entered the lane with me and got closer to my rear bumper. I couldn't even see the headlights at that point. He was prob. just a few feet from my bumper. So I signaled into the next lane, and the car behind me of course, did the same thing.

At this point, I decided this wasn't a cop and it was some punk kids trying to get a rise out of me. So I gave it to them and downshifted from 5th to 3rd and pulled hard. I didn't stop until I hit 147mph, and at which point my car was shaking from the speed. After five miles, maybe five or ten minutes later, the same car gets right back on my bumper.

And this time turns on blue lights. At that point, the only thing I'm thinking about is how cold the cuffs are going to feel on my wrists. I signalled over and the off-duty State Trooper asks me for the license and registration which I promptly hand him. He asks me to step out the of car. He's checking the plates, stickers, everything. He calls into his dispatcher and tells them to call of the Corvette (yeah, they called out the Corvette to pursue!). I plead my case. I used very choice words. I didn't have a drink in me.

He let me off with a verbal warning!

I haave to say that the best bet is to take the ticket and get a good lawyer. a couple years back a buddy and I were racing my porsche and his mercedes on a freeway in the port of long beach, which is literally abandoned at night. I won and flew by a cop sitting at the end who started to move, he saw my buddy fly by and pulled him over. my buddy got 95 in a 55 (the race was over and he was slowing down) wrekless driving, and speed competition. $1500 for a lawyer later, my buddy got off scott free! no fine, no court fees, and the cop showed up to court...... A good lawyer is worth every penny!

A buddy of mine got pulled over at 103 in a 60.

He got a lawyer ($500), paid fines and court costs ($600). So all told it cost him $1,100 PLUS he got 1 year of probation, PLUS has to do community service. YIKES!

Live here in Dallas and got hit doing 151 in a 65, yep thats right 86 over the limit. Didn't even see the cop. Had a bit of open hwy and just let her rip. He was on the service road. By the time I saw him I had dropped to 115 and he was right on my A**. Pulled over and go an A** chewing and a simple ticket. Ticket cost me $280. Very surprised. Could have got me for reckless endangerment, and reckless driving.

Got pulled over on christmas day a few weeks ago for passing at an unlawful speed. 60 mph speed limit and i passed this ole gray hair
at about 109. Luckly the trooper saw my military ID, and asked my command, long story short he was a former rescue swimmer from my squadron back in 95. so he let me off with a verbal warning. but alot of people arnt as lucky.

I recommend not running , if you get caught man up and take the ticket, keep the speed for the track. lotta less people to get hurt.

Got pulled over comin back from dinner with my gf at about 12:20 at nite, her and i cruisin at about 95 in a 45 zone. Saw a car pull out way behind me, didn't think anything about it. Bout 5 minutes later, he comes flyin up on my ***, and hits the lights. I pull over (i got her on the back, i ain't runnin) and this older Kentucky State Police officer gets outta the cruiser and walks up to me. Asks me how fast i think i was goin. I don't BS him i tell him 95. He laughs, says "yeah you were movin pretty good!"---thanks me for not runnin, says he sees too many accidents from guys tryin to run, tells me to have a good nite, and walks away. Sometimes bein honest really does help! lol

ok, here's one....

Out riding with a buddy on an interstate in the middle of Oklahoma City. Minding our own business, up drives a smartass teenager in a fast and furious starter kit, painted like a package of skittles. Wanting to prove the quickness (or lack thereof) of his little toy he motions his intentions and mocking the lovley red honda upon which I was riding. This is a no no. To prove a point, and quite frankly to get this dude away from me before he ran me off the road, I dropped down into 3rd rolled on the throttle and watched this little matchbox toy shrink in the rearview. At this point my buddy is trying to catch my attention my flashing his brights at me. Not knowing why, and figuring I had proven my point, I started my deceleration from 120. As I slowed down to around 75 or so a sheriffs cruiser pulled along beside me....geez, what is this cars pulling up beside me today!!?? Anyway, he looked over and nodded and me.....and I nodded back. Yes sir, I acknowledge that you caught me, yes sir, I know that I was a dumbass....my bad. After that little non-verbal exchange, he drove on by. I pulled off and changed my pants

I got busted for 100 in a 45 on Ft. Lewis, WA by the MP's. I was lucky enough that the guys were both superbike racers, and had deployed with my unit a year ago. Got off with a verbal warning. God smiles on fools and children...

i generally never do anything crazy so mostly i stay outta trouble
whenever time allows i go riding in the local hills by the coast in the afternoon

anyway i was coming back home last thursday and stopped @ this second-to-last light about a a-mile away from my house
there's a nice 1/8th mile of open street - no signals, no bumps, no driveways, no shoulders - NOTHING so i let 'er fly as soon as the light turned green
i was coming up the crest @ the end of my run going over a 100 (in a 40 mph zone) when i saw a wide-eyed motorcycle cop pass me on the other side - he probably heard me coming a mile away and i knew from his look that he'd definitely be coming after me as soon as he pulled a U ... THANKFULLY he was going with the opposing flow of traffic so it'd give me a spot of time
as i neared the last light my mind was racing - duck into the bank ? into the coffee place ? into the gas station ? but the light turned green so i just kept on going ... splicing/dicing between the cars till i dove into my side-street & into my driveway ... desperately jabbing my right jacket pocket to initialise the garage remote, miraculously it worked @ the first try and i stuck my 1000rr between the cars & ran to close the garage door.
i took off my helmet, gloves in the darkness ... breathing heavily when i heard a chopper come over my block, circle for a while and then go off someplace

THAT was too scary to be fun ! ;-)

I've heard through rumor that cops will generally not pull you over if you are speeding over about 100 mph. Not that I'm recommending this, condoning it or even suggesting it, but I simply wanted to start some conversation. The argurmen goes: If a cop is on the side of the road and you fly by at about 100mph by the time he gets turned into traffic and accellerates, you (assuming you haven't crashed) are already several miles ahead of him. Obviously he calls on the radio but hopefully you've pulled off and are driving at a normal pace. Anyone ever heard this? Anyone been caught doing +100mph by a cop that chased you down?

My story: I was pulled over after doing about 95 because the highway I was on narrows and has some lights on it. I was literally sitting at the red light when I heard a cop siren and I thought to myself "someone is really F'd" then he pulled in front of me and told me to turn off my bike. Damn damn damn I thought to myself. He thought I was running from him, I told him I didn't even see him and that I respected cops enough not to run. We made up and he presented me with a paper gift (ticket). But I got to reflecting (tickets have a way of doing that)... and ran this by some of my friends who all told me of this 100 mph rule. Thoughts anyone...?
To answer your question, yes.
If you are speeding, they will chase, and/or call ahead. "They" doesn't always have to be Cops/CHP...heck, in my case, it was a damn park ranger. That CHP was blazing down the fwy chasing me, shortly thereafter. I only know that because a friend who'd gotten on the fwy at a nomal pace minutes after me, told me he'd seen the CHP blazing behind him, makes sense, cuz he got me within 10 or so minutes of getting on. Going 110 mph. It was stupid, I was actually going 125 - 135 most of the way, but to some what justify it, it was 12:30 at night on a weekday. Still wrong though.

- If you don't want to get pulled over, then don't speed (much - going over 80). In CA, that is considered "excessive speeding"... at least stay under 90... and what I think to be more important, don't drive stupid (erratically - swerving in and out of lanes).
