Default How much to get carbs cleaned?

From a katana 750. We took them off so we could take them up to the bike place and get cleaned but they said they have to be on the bike or they wont touch them because they have to check if they are firing right. and they also said the base price is around $550 but that is just an estimate!?

Does that sound right to you guys? i thought it would be like 100 to get them cleaned. I was way off lol

definately clean them yourself. You have them off already. Its just a matter of removing the float bowls, pulling the jets and cleaning them. Also, remove the floats so you can make sure the needle and seat are good and clean.

I think the main reason they charge 550 is its all based on hours. So if the shop charges say 80 an hour, they are estimating almost 7 hours of labor. removing the carbs, cleaning them, reinstalling them, sycning them..... I can see the hours adding up.

You and I both know that it doesnt take that long, especially for a seasoned mechanic. But more than likely, they have a book they go by that suggest how long it should take to do a certain task and thats how much they charge. But getting it done for 100 bucks would be extremely cheap.

If I were you, I would clean them myself. Then reinstall them. If you have any running issues, set up an appointment to have them sycned. that would save you some time and money. Its not as hard as it sounds. You actually have the hard part already done in removing them. Cleaning them is the easy part.

dude you're looking at probably $100 to get a single carb bike cleaned up

if i remember right my shop charges around $250 or so for a 4 carb bike

also prices are generally setup by a manufacturer on things like this. I know Honda sets our hourly rate and gives a base price for things like this and tire changes etc

is there any trick to get the screws out of the float bowls with out stripping them? There on there pretty tight.

I cleaned and synced mine, fairly easy deal, take them apart, clean them, put them back in and then you just need 4 vac gauges to sync them.
