Honda Civic?
Crash,
I caught this a little late, seeing how you already bout the car. Heres what I can tell you from personal experience. If the car was taken care of properly and had regular maintenance, you will be fine.
If it was driven like it was a piece of crap, that is exactly what you will get. My dad bought a 98 civic when he started a new job with a 70 mile commute one way. He keep up with everything, hit a few deer along the way, and she still runs like a champ. He just turned 330K last week. My 99 on the other hand was bought used, I knew the guy who had it. He ran the heck out of it, it just turned 168K, and I swear that thing is a piece of ****! All of my family has driven in like the last ten years are Hondas, all have bought them new, and have never had a single issue with them other ethan the regular upkeep that you would have with any other car.
I know this probably doesn't help, but just a little FYI for you.

D, the steal was $500 cash for the car and i'm currently looking at prices to get the trans. rebuilt, so far its ranging from $475 - $1,100. Haven't decided if I want to task myself with the job or someone else.
id say you cant go wrong with the car at that price. nice find man.
my best find was a trade in at our dealership....this was 3-4 years ago....96 nissan maxima SE v6 5speed, loaded, alloys, moonroof, bose, etc.204k from commuting between Arizona and Maine, older couple owned it....$500 bucks. he was the only owner, bought it new and still had the original window sticker for $27,000.

I gots myself a 96 accord with 205k on it, bought it with 157k. I never had any tranny slippage until it totally went at about 190k. Other than that, nothing major. Intake gasket, that issue wore out 2 cat converters. New rack-n-pinion and a radiator. That's about it. I loves driving me hondas!
So here's a little update...
Went ahead and decided to keep the cost low and do the work myself with the help of my brother and father. We spent 8 hours under the hood but she should be good to go for the time being.
Parts Replaced:
Used Trans, Valve Cover Gasket, Oil Pan Gasket, Half Shafts, Front Rotors, Front Pads, Oil Change, Upper/Lower Radiator Hoses, Heater Hoses, Fuel Filter, Thermostat, Left Lower Engine Mount and a badly needed Wash/Wax.
Getting it back down to my place, which is about 4 hours away from where it was being kept it got 30.13mpg with a majority hwy. So i still think a tune up might be needed but i'll wait.

yea i get good mileage in mine also. 98 Civic DX 2 door, same silver color. Great cars, mines 5 speed. No problems yet. Replace the timing belt before it snaps. I snapped on in my talon and cost me a motor.
wow, 42mpg is a BIG difference. I'll guess I'll put more priority into this Tune-Up. I'm wondering if its just lack of compression or if sparks plugs, wires, injectors would really make that big of a difference.
