Still like #1 better.
Can you ask what the price points are? For example, ask what are my prices @ 35, @50? that way you can just post a the set prices and state that you are buying at minimum of the 35 prices but subject to go lower based on how many people want them.

I assume you can get them at better than what they're selling for on the internet or is it about the same?

Yeah, see I didn't know, "price points," lol. Anyway, yeah I'm thinking $15/hat. Don't quote me on it but I couldn't imagine he would try to sell me 35 hats at $20+/per.
