Default hit and run sucks....

Yesterday my sis calls me all crying, asking me where I am. She's the emotional type. I told her I was at home. Apparently she was stuck in traffic and there was a motorcyclist killed not a half mile from my house. I told her I was fine, and she needed to calm down and drive on home, everything's ok.

Then an hour later a buddy texts me asking if I'm ok. Apparently the story hit the local news that a SUV clipped a male motorcyclist on a blue Honda in a hit and run. I guess my bike could be a blue if viewed in the right light.

Only report in the news last night was that someone hit the rider, and left the scene w/o notifying anyone.

I checked the local newspaper's website this morning and they had more story - apparently the 20 year old driving the SUV had contacted the police and owned up to at least being involved, but no other details other than posting a pic of the bike laying in the road. Looks like a Shadow, def not a sportbike, and I can't tell much, but looks like a head-on collision.

I'm not going to post the pic here, but here's the link to the article.

Helmets are required here in Louisiana, I'm guessing that's a spare.

Although if that's the spare, I'm guessing his primary was just a turtleshell too. I have no effing clue how those things get DOT approved.

I hate to be stereotypical but my guess is she was texting and not paying any attention. If that is the cause then its a damn shame. Hate to see a rider go down and its even worse that they didn't make it.

Sorry to hear this sad news... my condolences go out to his family

on a side note, ive had this conversation with someone else before

but

DOT will pretty much approve anything that sits on your head, DOT is state/federally funded, they would prefer you dead vs being a vegetable they have to pay for life support for

sad truth

yup, thats the truth, all you have to do is pay to get it certified - they don't really test it like snell does.

RIP to the rider- it always strikes a cord to hear that. sucks because something stupid on the kid in the SUV's part (phone, text, radio, somoene else inside the car) is probably what caused the rider to lose his life
