Default Help With Outdoor Motorcycle Storage/Security

Okay guys so wife and I have gotten a new place for sure, I am losing my garage, but its not a huge deal since during the winter season I can still store my motorcycle in my grandmothers garage 5 minutes away from my house.

So here is my question I live in a very secure community, but I am also the type to do something right or not at all.

My front window (second floor) looks right out to the parking lot which is great, also here I will part the bike has a nice chain link fence behind it for me to chain my bike to...

So my general plan was to do something along these lines...

Large gauge chain, rubber coat it, and wrap it from the rear wheel of the motorcycle around the fence, and use braided steel to link the front and rear tires together, all held together by a no-cut lock

As for covering I have a non water proof cover, I was going to throw over it, and also purchase a smaller black tarp to put over that cover to keep water off the bike in case it rains....

My next possible step would include a two way paging alarm, and a camera pointed out my window at the bike...

what do you guys think?

plz dont say get lojack, or get a garage blah blah..

lojack is to expensive, and a garage isnt a option... so im looking for a good alternative

Why not have your lock make some noise?

With those alarms I'm not 100% sure which brand it is but you can set it up to send texts to your BB, Iphone, Droid if the bike gets touched. I personally thought that was cool, perhaps something to check on.

they have alot of things that can page your phone and stuff, but ide do a two way pager/alarm vs that just because i always put my phone on vibrate, that way if the alarm goes off I KNOW what is happening

In the market for an alarm also, although I haven't found one with a pager for $100 -- (cheapest I found was $150)

If you know of one let me know.

I have mine outside with no garage in the summer as well and I have a cover like this:
http://cgi.ebay.ca/Nelson-Rigg-Deluxe-Motorcycle-Cover-Black-Silver-Medium-/250777596335?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&hash =item3a638271af

And the 2 way paging alarm:

http://www.gorilla-auto.com/motorcycle.alarms

I park it in the driveway right beside my bedroom window and have the keychain on the dresser beside the bed.
The alarm is good because you can set the sensitivity alarm to just chirp in case of a false alarm so it doesnt wake up all the neighbours if we get a strong wind etc but still have the alarm go off if it is picked up off its kickstand..

I also block it in with my truck so it would be very difficult to try to pick it up and move it if they disabled the alarm.

The cover is good because it is waterproof with vents to let the bike breath and a Heat resistant bottom so if you did put it on with the bike warm it won't melt the cover to the exhaust.

You have way more security then I do so I think your more then prepared.

Z - Sorry to hear that you are losing your garage man. So you said you could store your bike in your Grandma's garage over the winter. Would it be a option to store it there over the summer as well. With it being a 5 min drive it wouldn't be bad to drive over there. Take the bike for a cruise then drive home. Just a thought....

yea im sorry too but it dropped our rent a substantial amount every month so i guess its worth it

but yes storing it there is a option except for the fact that once its warm itll be my daily driver, that and I plan on using the space in my grandmas garage to continue working on customers rides

i am happy to find a sony night/day wireless camera can be picked up for around 40 bucks though

Yeah you do what you got to do to get ahead in life. I think your idea of chaining to to the fence, putting some kinda of alarm that will scream at you and a video camera on it is about the best you can do. If someone really wants the bike they will get it and there is not much else you can do besides a 24/7 body guard. Thieves want to get in and out quick, the longer they are there the better chance of being caught so you chaining it up will deter them. Also does the parking lot have lights? Parking under lights will deter them as well.
