Default Help with d!ckhead roomate

I recently moved in with one of my friends, and I'm ready to strangle him. He's constantly leaving dirty dishes in the sink for days at a time. He cooks stuff and leaves a mess. He kicks his shoes off when he walks in and leaves them in the living room. He and his friends smoke w33d in the living room.

I've asked him several times already to clean up after himself, to put his shoes in the closet or in his room, to smoke in his room or take it outside (to which his response was that he wants to be able to watch a movie on the big tv while he smokes).

I'm paying 60% of the rent because I have the bigger room, and only my name is on the lease. If he keeps doing the things I told him to change, and I were to give him a month or so notice, am I legally allowed to kick him out? Could he complain saying that we had an agreement to move in together an now that I'm kicking him out he has some kind of grievance?

that sucks man. to answer your question...i would say that if you were to kick him out, he would not be able to do anything because his name is not on the lease. if it is was just a verbal agreement, then there is really no proof that you had an "agreement." i would say that if nothing was in writing and signed by both of you, then he can't complain about anything other than not following your rules in the apartment in your name. just my .02

Frankly... since you're the only one on your lease, and you're not a real "landlord" (since you don't own the property), I think it's actually illegal (a breach, most likely, of the rental agreement you signed when you got said place) for him to be there without being on the lease. Soooo... use that as leverage. If he won't leave, let someone know at the complex that he's "Squatting" and won't leave... and if he gets to be a real D-bag about it... there's always the cops.

This will not do good things for your relationship with said friend... there's no good way it can turn out. Kick him out... hopefully you can afford the full rent, and call it a day.

Have you not heard of, "buttered kitchen floor." Dude, there are so many things you can do to a person that you live with - the possibilities are endless.

Ever heard of the, "bluetooth cell phone hack?" Since you have access to his phone you can hack it with yours. Anytime he is within Bluetooth range you can **** with him - you control his phone.

I mean if I lived with someone I didn't like or was bothering me... maybe I wanted to brainwash them... oh man the possibilities... [sm=proof.gif]

thanks for the responses, as far as our relationship is concerned, since he's disrespecting me by not cleaning up and by making the house smell like @$$ with the smoke, he's already damaged our friendship

i just want to be very careful how i handle this cuz i know he is a sneaky bastard and lives to prove people wrong and teach people lessons

EDIT: Kid - yeah those thoughts had crossed my mind but like i said before i saw your post this guy would just get bitchy then try to start getting even, and it would turn into an all out war

if he is not on the lease you can kick him out at any time for any reason. you can wait till he leaves and put his junk on the front lawn if you want to.

the way i would handle it is sit down with him one time. tell him what you want him to change. and tell him that if he doesn't change he has to leave. maybe he will just choose to leave anyway. if he refuses to change and refuses to leave. wait till he is smoking one time and call the cops. they will atleast give him a ticket and rob his high. haha. that might get him to move out. just don't be afraid of what he is going to do. just get him away from your house. he is only going to make it worse.

If you are a big enough dick back to him, he will leave. Its your place, do whatever you want.

you should start leaving gay porno in the DVD player and start playing on the big screen whenever he and his buddies fire it up, (and hide the remote)

won't i get in trouble too since it's technically my apartment? i thought there was a law about knowingly allowing controlled substances like that into your residence?

lol that's funny as hell, but then they're all going to think i was the one watching it and be like wtf and it probably wouldn't make him want to leave

You need to check the laws in your state as they all seem to be different.

In my state, without him being on the lease he has no right to be there, but he may be able to stay there for a certain amount of days while you give him notice in writing to leave. The fact that he has drugs would give immediate eviction in many leases, so look at that hard. It sure seems like you have many different ways to get him to leave legally and still have him owe you fro the utilities he used while he was there.

Anyway, your best bet is to use the drug angle as that may get him out the door in a day or so where other measures may take longer and give him a chance to F with you.

If dood bothers you THAT BAD, just suck it up till the lease is up AND BOUNCE!

That way, you won't have to do anything to kick him out. Since your name (and your name only) is on the lease, all you have to do is NOT RENEW next year.

The effort that it takes you to move out, find another place, and find another roomate may be worth not having to deal with dood any longer that necessary.
