What about some chain lube and wheel cleaneror a gallon of synthetic oilor something like that Greek? If they ride, they will eventually need those items so you know they won't go to waste and they won't breakthe bank either.

How about a magazine subsricption to a rag the regularly read? My friends and family know I read tons of books/mags on all sorts of stuff for my hobbies and get me subscriptions and I think its really cool.
