Default Gas

My service manual says to use 86 octane or higher, which means mid-grade would work. I've been putting 91 octane from Chevron in it.

What kind of gas do you use and what kind of bike?

You can use anything available from a pump in your area.
Higher octane doesn't mean more performance, unless you have the mods to make use of the boosted octane.
I'm running 95 unleaded in a 1000F.
It's the lowest we have.................

Isn't your "95" based on RON though Shadow?

you should always run closest to the reccomended octane without going under, since thats what the engine was designed to run. Run higher octane, and loose power, Run lower octane, and run the risk of pre-ignition. If 86 is the minimum, run 87. You'll get the best out of your engine.

There is a station on the west side of Indy that has race fuel on a pump, 109 (I believe). I am going to run a tank or 2 through before I switch to mid grade.

Foreign Octane measurements are different.

There is a thread on this in the 600RR section - it is even titled "Gas" - read it.

when I run the low grade I get popping and what not, but mid grade things clear up, so that's what I've been running.

Actually if we can get away from the octane argument, I'd like to hear what brand gas everyone uses.

There's a Getty station down the block from my apt. Not too sure about their gas though. My gf's car and my bike ran chitty after getting gas from them. Different weeks so I doubt it was simply a bad batch of gas.
