Went through similar considerations with my recent bike purchase. The safety course bike was a Rebel 250 and was a very easy bike to handle, although I did not like the sitting "up" position; legs and feet just felt wrong. Started with the CBR 250 and Ninja 250 which were comfortable and height friendly (I'm 5-6 with short legs) but a little lacking when it came to freeway riding (ninja, expected cbr to be the same). Looked at the Ninja 500s and found them to be comfortable, height friendly, with a little more zip, and not that much heavier then the 250s. About that time my son let me ride his 05 F4i and I liked it, but it was just to tall for me. After looking around I found the 02 F4i which I ultimately purchased, the early two piece seat was narrower which allowed me just enough leg extension. The bottom line is how she feels on the bike, put her on a few different types and see what she likes. If she feels good about it, she's already starting ahead of the curve with that critical factor called confidence.

Seriously, i would go for a 500, GSXF, NINJA, something like that. A 250 will just make her mad I feel and then 2-3 months get ANOTHER used bike.

wow no ones asked why she needs a bike in the kitchen yet?

ne way, I would suggest a ninja 250 or 500... If she knows (or u know) shes going to be riding sporty bikes later on starting on one would be very very helpful... that's my only problem with the rebel. I started on it and got very very confident... but when I switched to the cbr all of that went out the window and I was starting from scratch all over.
