g/f wants a bike what would you suggest
yeah she can ride a bicycle she does not know how to drive manual at all. i was possibly thinking of starting her on a scooter to give her the idea of riding around on two wheels. But i know the course will healp her alot
There - fixed that for you. :-)
Stop thinking like a sporter and think about rookie requirements.
A Honda Rebel 250 is a really good learner, especially for a woman. Low seat
height, good balance/CG.
Since it IS a beginner bike, can be picked up used
inexpensively. No it's not a keeper, but that first 1-2k miles is critical to
long-term success and enjoyment.
This bike will instill skill and confidence
without intimidating the novice rider. THEN, start looking for that really
cool crotch rocket that she'll look all sexy on.

^^ Agree, Ern. I was gonna suggest a rebel 250 or something similar. Seat height sounds like a real issue. Plus, the steering and position on a little cruiser is a bit easier.
There's a guy at a gas station near here who has a silver rebel. It's actually a cool little bike. He says people give him chit sometimes but he doesn't care. Good mileage, cheap, and he wants to upgrade when he thinks he's ready. Respectable guy.
I also agree with Russel. If you have access to a dirt bike, Herb, it would be well worth getting her some seat time. Less hurt to the bike and your lady.

my wife started on a gs500. its light, skinny, and handles well. got it for 900 bucks, in almost perfect condition.
