kinda hayden, if you have justification to fire them, ie proper paper trail, then you can fight the unemployment suit. in the state of texas i can fire you for whatever reason i want, that is my right, but it is their right to get unemployment if they were fired unfairly. if someone is late 3 times, write them up, fire on 3rd violation. technically, if you write someone up for insubortination, being late, and not following a procedure, then you cant fire them. three separate violations on different things, must be the same 3 offenses. at least that is how it is in texas. when i was a gm at dominos they wouldnt let us fire people b/c of this stuff, i did anyway.

sorry veeps, some people just can not and will not own up to their mistakes no matter what you do or say but I definitely would not exacerbate the situation because we all know there are some really unstable people out there.

a while back, i had suspected an employee of theft for a long time and saw an invoice sticking out of her purse one night (employees are not to take invoices under any conditions and any voids must have manager approval). i asked her to explain and she would not. I asked her to give me the ticket and she would not. I said if you want to do this the difficult way we can call in the police. She still refused, cops where called, not only did they find more than $1000 in invoices (and matching cash) that she never rung in the register (pocketed the money) but also cocaine and other drug paraphernalia. Pretty stupid and sad at the same time. As she was being hauled out she threatened to have me off'd as well.

Edit: Oh, and to answer before it is asked: She was not hawt.
