I doubt it would take long for the government to clear a highway, even during rush hour if they needed to use it.
Ten miles of bumper to bumper traffic might take a while to clear. Around Seattle I-5 doesnt have much of a shoulder.

RRasco - no that's not what I or anyone is saying. I just took the opportunity touse this as an example of what a lot of people are unaware of.
Ok, so anyone want to enlighten me on the point of this thread? Don't get me wrong, that map is cool, but I feel like I'm missing something.

I was taught in 8th grade that the interstate hughway system was created for the military, I don't think they're really trying to hide it.

Makes you wonder what else is in place that we don't know about. Maybe we see/use it everyday and have freaking clue what it's ultimate purpose is...

doo-do doo-do

If you were a full-time resident or have lived in Carteret County North Carolina. You probably wouldn't even know this yourself. I'm only going to say that somewhere within the boundaries of this county on a 2 Lane Rd. There is quarter of a mile long driveway leading onto a piece of property with no perceived fencing. If you were to drive more than a eighth of a mile back this driveway. You would be greeted and asked to leave after you have been clearly identified

No one ever said otherwise!

and for every 5 miles of highway, 1 mile is required to be straight so we can use that portion of a runway should we ever be invated. highways make for great emergency landing strips when your single engine plane poops out.
