Default Cleanning my fish tank..quick question.

My piranha is a messy eater now that he is eating live food. and doing the 30% water changes isnt doing much anymore. the tank is still very mercy and dirty looking. and i heard you arent sapposed to change it all out at once because then you also lose benficial bacteria. whats the best thing to do here? ive tried products that remove cloudiness and odors and whatnot. but they arent working so well. my fish is doing so well now and i dont want to lose him due to a dirty tank..ALSO, it said change the filter every month..should i be doing it more often?

the 15-30% water change is good. what i suggest is either after doing that,, shake it up a bit(the stones and let the filter suck up as much as it can,, then take out filter and clean well but before putting it back in, let the remaining food and what not settle on ground. this helps alot. also, if you dont have live plants, use some of those clear water fiz caps.make sure you take out carbon filter if u have one when using these..

let me no if u have more questions

There is also a siphon tube thingy. It is about an 1.5 inches in diameter with a 1/2 hose. As the suction/siphon action happens, it picks up the gravel but doesn't suck it into the hose. It kinda washes it without removing all the bacteria, only the fish crap and goo. Do a gallon or two in a small tank, that should be fine.

my idea is so much BETTER.

actually i agre with fishfryer,, thats what i meant about doing a water change,, i always use the siphon technique,, it really does a great job and it is very strong so you wont suck gravel up.

or,, if that still doesnt work.... call the pool guys or,, some pool cleaning service,, they proly could chlorine the hell out of ur tank haha
