Choices..Choices..Choices...
Me and my better half have been looking to pick her up a bike for a while now, she's been trying to decide what she wants for her first bike based largely on the looks and my opinions of them. She's finally settled on a SV650 due to the fact that she doesn't want to jump right into a supersport and that she'll eventually be getting my f4i when I pick up a 1kRR or a R1 anyways. Worked out the loan with the bank now and the msf course in scheduled so it's time to pick one up.
So, here's the dilema, /sigh (you guys with serious relationships will understand this I'm sure), she wants "the yellow one with the pretty spoiler on the back, it's so cute". Ala,
What I've found is "that washed out looking grey one".
I know a guy that's selling a silver 03 sv650 identical to the one above for $2600 with 15k miles on it, it went down in the past but has been repaired and is in decent shape now, now the only "pretty yellow one" that I've found is from a cl ad about 3 hours drive away, a yellow 05 sv650 with 5k on it for $3600 from some guy who seems kinda douchy.
Feh... what would you do? Bite the bullet and pick her up the 05 with fewer miles in the paint she wants? Or get her the older one you found a good deal on that neither of you will cry about as much when she drops it? I could get the older one and paint it as well, feh..... Also, they are the identical model I think, there weren't any major changes that I know of between those two years..
Anyways, seems like a minor thing but any of you in long term relationships will prolly realize how these things go.... women are... women. Speaking of women, any female perspectives on this situation or especially on these bikes would be greatly appreciated.

Hey Hang, good to hear you're moving foward with getting the old lady on a bike. I'm hoping to do the same thing here before the year ends, and hopefully end up with a new bike as well
I'd recommend getting the yellow '05 with only 5K miles on it. This being her first bike, it would be nice for her to get the one she wants, and she'd be more apt to want to ride it. Her first bike will be one she'll probably never forget so it be very generous of you to give her good memories to remember, not to mention scoring some serious brownie points in the process. Also, the bike with 5K vs. the one with 15K, maintenace wise, would be a lot easier. With the older one it's at that point where things need to start being replaced (chain, plugs, ect...). IMHO

Had a couple of friends that had the Yellow model, both females & they liked the colour.
Not sure on which year model of the SV's it happened, but they got some adjustment for firmness set up on the front suspension. Not a big problem really, as you can still play with the set up using the old "insert X amount of washers on top of the springs" trick.
Even the models with the firmness adjustment still suffer from way to soft suspension (especially under hard braking), so a change to a heavier fork oil weight would go along way. I think your going to enjoy riding this bike to, they love cornering & you can go the rat & hammer through the twisties without easing up on the throttle, great fun.

yeah I thought about that. Discussed it some more with her today and looks like we'll be picking up the yellow 05 wednesday. We sat down and talked it over, discussed the pros and cons, the over a grand price difference (I did some more haggling with the sellers) and I then explained to her that it would likely be dropped and it's only her first bike, not her last one, etc. She listened to all of it politely....... then told me she wanted the yellow one, lol. I get the impression I could have told the the 05's have a tendency to spontaneously explode every third day you ride them and that the 03 silver wouldn't, and she'd still have given me the same answer. But, as was mentioned already, if she's happy so am I. Plus, I feel pretty lucky to have a sig other that actually wants to start riding with me on her own and I'd hate to ruin that excitement by having us pick up something that she may potentially have problems with or isn't exactly what she wants.
