Default CE Armor???

I just bought a new jacket and it has armor everywhere.....back, shoulders, forearms/elbows.....

my question is, how much does this stuff really help?....The forearm/elbow armor really isn't all that comfortable and I was thinking of just leaving that portion of the armor out.....thoughts and comments on this idea.....I don't want to sacrifice performance of the jacket, but I want to be comfortable as well.....

the foam stuff is good for one fall, and can wear through at high speeds, but it is better then just the jacket material, but it will help a lot with the initial hit, I am sure it could mean the difference between a chipped/broken elbow or not. I have taken a lot of falls riding bmx and knee pads were a godsend (when i wore them)

I wish I had something on my knees when i went down on my motorcycle. I had my jacket on but it didn`t really get touched much.

I say leave it in, if its really that bad you probably need a nicer jacket, I paid like 200 for my Joe Rocket textile jacket, its not the greatest but it is comfy to ride in and I think it would keep me safe for the most part, the only problem is that it isn`t tight enough in some places like the elbows and I think the armor could shift in a bad fall. I really want a nicer leather jacket cause I think I would get better protection/warmth.

I`ll second that ~ leave the armor in. I have an ICON Motorhead (leather) and if I wear it without the liner, the armorfeels bulky on theelbows. This is remedied with a long sleeve shirt. Like the saying goes; it`s not supposed to be comfortable, but it is comforting (to know it`s there).

You don´t have to settle for the armor that came with the jacket. Plenty of aftermarket companies (okay, several) make armor for motorcyclists. That´s what I would do, just look into replacing what you have with something more comfy...like hardened foam instead of molded plastic, yet still lives up to CE standards.

I agree with everyone else. Leave it in.

think if it this way. If you punch a brick wall as hard you can with a thin glove, Its gonna hurt and probably break something. Now, take a boxing glove and punch a brick wall as hard you can.Obvioulsy, I dont mean to literally go andpunch a wall. But think about the actual impact your body is going to receive if you crash.

Also, After a few rides, you wont even know its there.Unless you have massive forearms, you will get use to them.

Exactly right. Give it some time to get used to it, and pretty soon you will feel naked any time you get on a bike without full gear.
