CBRFORUM meet (Attempt)
From: Milwaukee, WI area....
Would love to go to Elkhart for some kind of event/ride.
Maybe we could go to Kettle Moraine, I have heard of some sweet twisties through the forrest.
I think for the most part everyone so far from WI has picked Elkhart for the meeting place....

I said this in another CBR Meet thread too..........
A huge meet in a central location would be the best way to go for our "meet". A track day would be a great because it's an event we are meeting up to be involved in. We could always ride the day before, or the day after. Most of the tracks have great roads in surrounding areas.
Riding a hell of a long way just to meet up at a twisty road (like Deal's Gap, or my 40-miles of Gila Mountains) is kind of not worth it for most people. Why? Because it's not really an event to meet up at, but rather a bunch of us meeting up to go group-riding on a public road (which any of us can do at any time, really.)
So this is what I would propose...........Have a 2 or 3 day meet. You could either trailer or ride your bikes out to the meet.
Day 1: Track day
The majority of us have already stated that a track day would be a good idea. So, we head to a track for a track day. For the people who don't want to participate in the track day, they could hang out in the racing paddock to visit and get to know all the other forum members and watch other members on the track. This might sound boring, but if we get enough people to meet up, it will be a blast sitting around in the pits, getting to know everyone, especially while watching people on the track. (which I think is actually pretty entertaining). This will also be a great ice breaker so that everyone is comfortable with each other for when we go on the big group ride.
Day 2: The Group Ride
We group ride. All of us, on our bikes for the group ride. We could ride all day and do anything that specific area has to offer. Every track is located in a place where there is a lot of stuff to do. So, we group ride and stop in a few places to either sight-see or stop at attractions and amusement places.
Day 3: (if the meet lasts that long) Continued Group Rides/Visiting Attractions
We would spend the day either group riding again, going to other attractions, amusement parks, whatever we want. (though, that all depends on where we decide to go.)
MY SUGGESTIONS ON A DESTINATION:
Since the majority of us are going to be doing this as a "vacation", why not treat it as such. So here are a few destination that I think would be incredible to meet up at.
1. Laguna Seca. It's one of the most well known, incredible tracks in the nation, and a track day would be incredible. Not to mention it has surrounding areas such as Monterey, San Francisco (which has a Six Flags), Red Wood Forest, etc. etc. Not to mention, it's 5 miles from Laguna Seca to the beach, and the notoriously well known highway 1 (Pacific Coast Highway) that goes right along the coast. I know this is VERY far to travel for people on the east coast, and that seems to be the only flaw (but, GREAT weather for riding.......which is something that we absolutely HAVE to have to have a good meet.)
2. Any other professional race track to hold a track day. I'm sure that every other track has just as many good roads, attractions and sights as Laguna Seca, so any track I'm down to go to. The only stipulation I have is WEATHER. If we meet, at oh, say Mid-Ohio. Sure, it's a track, but if it rains (because this meet will be happening supposedly either April, May or June), that's the rainy season, and bad weather would suck. Which is the only reason I hesitate to pick a midwestern destination during that timeframe.
3. Yellowstone National Park. Yes, that's right, I said Yellowstone. It's one of the most beautiful places I have ever been to, and one of the greatest road trips I have taken. I'm positive that it would be even better on a bike.
BUT BEFORE WE CAN DECIDE ON WHERE TO GO, WE NEED TO DECIDE ON WHAT TYPE OF MEET THIS IS GOING TO BE! We all need to agree on what type of a meet, 1, 2 or 3 days. THEN we can pick a destination.

someone said stay in salinas, i would advise against that... montery is more expensive, but a much nicer place, salinas... no offense has turned into a gettho, i used to have a house in north monterey county, and i wacthed the place turn into a **** hole.... there are a few nices parts, but the rest is a ****-hole
Fox, I usually don't disagree with what you say...BUT...although what you propose is nice in theory, you're just not being practical...you seem to be saying time and time again that it's either a huge thing or nothing....
take it slow...this is the first time we are actually getting close to doing this from what i understand....that being said.....you can't expect everything all at once...if we have a few smaller meets then maybe a year or two do a big one then great...but the all-or-nothing attitude isn't going to help this move along...
as for the comment about it being a vacation and should treat it as such....that's not a good reason to have it someplace....listen, the logistics just WON'T work for me trying to go to someplace like california....assuming i want to ride which i do, i would have to either ride to Cali or trailer my bike (more $$)....the time alone to get to cali by road is like 3 days from chicago then what...another let's say on the short end...2 day meet, with another 3 back...hell i am still at 8 days 6 of which spent traveling....THAT'S not worth it....
you seem to have a thing for laguna...you push it in every one of your posts...let me be the first to say....if we DO decide on laguna...i won't be going this year....i just can't do it...some of us have families and jobs where this is not a feasible option...i am not going to burn 8 of my vacation days to go riding with buddies and then tell my wife...sorry, can't do anything with you for awhile as a result....i can swing 4 maybe 5 days....if it included a weekend....that's more feasible....
also...look at that buddy map i set up...OF the people who have put themselves on the map, a majority of the members are east of colorado....with a bulk being in the midwest and east coast...to have anything on the west coast would be absolutely ridiculous....great idea....but horrible in practice....
bottom line....we need to either do a few smaller meets to make it more feasible for everyone to attend somewhere and work our way up to a big....HUGE event.....OR we find a place that is truly central to as many members as possible and hope for the best.....
that's my .02

EVERYONE READ THIS PART!!!!!!!!!
So here's a more detailed version of my previous proposal which is what I suggest we do for the meet. Yay or nay it...............
And just to clarify to everyone, I'm not saying this has to be a massively huge, "corporate conference" type of event, but a 2 to 3 day, track-day and group ride event sounds great.
So, we retain the 2-3 da
I agree on the 2-3day event hosted at a track instead of a public road, I think going for a track day or maybe even a race would be really fun and could be able to host a party in the parking lot or whatever for us to hang out and get to know each other. And about places like deals gap, it is a public twisty road andwe will encounter those on our group ride so don't worry.
Anyways to get to my main point, we really need some peopleto make real suggestions of tracks that are more centralized in the country. Because I know like me alot of people either can't or they don't want to drive from the east coast or midwest all the way to the west coast, it just isn't going to happen for some of us that have families and jobs.
I am really excited about setting upa meet for the cbrforum, if we could get some more people to come forward we can get the ball rolling and start setting this thing up for real.
