Default cash for clunkers

as far as i understood, the cash for clunkers program was strictly for new automobiles and not motorcycles.....

im in the market for a new bike and happened to log on to (EDIT / CBRClassic -no off site bike urls like that). this site belongs to fun bike center in san diego. i noticed it says cash for clunkers on their website so i contacted them. its 2500 for a 600cc and 4500 voucher for a 1000cc bike. so what gives!? i thought bikes werent eligible. has anyone used cash4clunkers to get a new bike?

ITs probably them just cutting off some of their profit and factoring in your trade in like it were a normal deal. Say they are selling a 1000RR at 11999. they bought it for about $7500-$8000. So thats about $4000-$4500 profit. However, you may be bringing in a 1998 bike thats only worth 2000. So say they give you $4500 for a bike thats worth $2000. Thats a loss of $2500. But they probably dont budge off their prices at all so off their profit, its still a $2000-$2500 gain. I think its just a clever way of advertising I think. No difference that working a little off their price and giving fair trade. Like I said, probably cleaver advertising.

Why does the goverment have to descrimate like that to us bikers. You not a cash for clunkers and get some of those really old bikes that shouldn't be near pavement off the road. Maybe not quite so much money but a little would be nice.
