RE: buying a bike with a lien?
i think i might have figured it out. since the bike techinaly owns the bike the title is in the banks name. so he can have the bank put the title in my name. it would never go to him. now if they transfer the title to me can i get some kind of tempary plate to ride it back to PA?

The bank isn't putting anything in anyone's name, they're simply going to give you the title. They may require a signature since some states require you notify the DMV within 30 days of selling a vehicle.
In that case, just go with him to the bank and they'll have a manager sign as seller then you sign as buyer OR, like in Missouri, the bank holds the title in the name of the individual making payments. And actually, in Missouri the purchaser gets a valid copy of the title in the mail as soon as you register the vehicle.
In any case you'll do one of two things...
Go to the bank with him, or go to the bank with him. It's also a good move if you have to get anything notarized.

RE: buying a bike with a lien?
I got a question.
My friends bother has a 03 GSXR 600. Lost the title for the bike. Wants to sell it for $1000. Its just been sitting for awhile now and just needs a washing and simple maintance. If I buy it will a Bill of Sale be enough to prove I own the bike? Not really looking to get it street legal.
