Buddies new bike
Ok...it gets good. A friend of mine that I've known for years bought an '06 Kawi 650R about 2 months ago - first bike. Pretty decent bike, good seating position and a good overall first bike for him or anyone. We went riding once and I decided I wouldn't ride with him for quite a while after that. Decent rider and all, just way too cocky the 2nd day of riding so I thought I'd give him time to hone his skills until he knew more about what he was doing on it. So Friday he buys an '06 GSXR 1000. That's right. Had I known, I would've really done my best to talk him out of that. I almost pooped myself when I heard of it today. I kept harping on him about gear...all he ever wears is a helmet. My suggestions and nagging didn't do any good as of yet either. So, with 70 miles on the 1000, it goes down. I wasn't there, but it didn't seem too hard. This is where I had to laugh (not funny for him though)...he had a sweatshirt on and took it off and sat on it. I think he said he was taking off from a light kinda hard and the bike kept going and he slid off the back, might have pulled the front wheel up too. Anyway, scratched some plastic and busted off his clutch lever. So now I feel as though I have my work really cut out for me in trying to keep him from getting hurt. I'm a moderate level rider and I can't even ever imagine I'll buy a liter bike.
maybe some of the guys will think twice about buying a liter bike to begin on. ihave been riding my f1 for 8 months now, and im still worried about getting on a newer 600...much less a 1000. you know what they say, you cant fix stupid.
crazy. Hey, but you did your part and tried to drop some sense into your buddy. Good job on that. He's lucky his first incident was so minor, that could have been a million times worse.
I have an '06 F4i and I can't see why anyone would want a liter bike. The 600s if ridden to thier full potential is way fast enough...too fast for the street. Not knocking it or anything...just not for me. Good thing he's not hurt.
i love the liter bike but u gotto know what your doing and how to ride and have some sense of the thottle before u drive/own one, i wnet from a 04 600rr to a 954 and it took me a good month to get comfortable on it, it all depends on person, i know a guy who is on his 2nd bike and went down 3 times already, twice on the first bike and once on 2nd bike.. then again i know people who buy 1000cc's for first bike and havent went down yet.. so who knows all depends on person but takes time for a 1000cc
